Chapter 99 The Thunderwood Amulet
Venus turned her head slightly, a bright smile lighting up her face.
Drake froze for a second.
Her smile was dazzling, like warm spring sunlight melting away winter snow.
For a moment, it felt like she was glowing.
“Ms. Oracle! Want me to come over and help? The sun’s kinda strong!” Saul suddenly shouted from a distance.
Drake had no words.
No wonder she was glowing. The sunlight was pouring all over her, turning her into a golden shimmer.
“Nah,” Venus said, brushing off her hands. “I’m done setting it up.”
She stood, walked toward Drake, and handed him a small wooden amulet.
A silver necklace ran through it, the wood blackened as if burned, with strange runes carved deep into its surface.
“What’s this?” Drake asked curiously.
Venus smiled. “It’s thunderwood. Wards off evil. I carved a protection spell into it. This amulet will shield you from harm and neutralize the blood omen.”
Drake admired her craftsmanship. The amulet was delicate and light, perfect to carry around.
“Thank you. I’ll keep it close,” he said, gripping the amulet with a faint smile.
Drake was in a good mood.
Saul gave them a push. “Ms. Oracle, to thank you for setting up the elemental circle, why don’t you stay for lunch?”
Venus shook her head with a polite smile. “No need, Saul. I’ve got something else to do.”
In truth, she didn’t. It was just an excuse.
Unfortunately, Drake didn’t seem to get the hint. “What’s the plan?” he asked.
“I’m meeting someone,” Venus said firmly.

Surely that was clear enough?
Anyone with sense would drop it there.
But Drake, serious as ever, pressed, “Who?”
Venus rubbed her forehead, about to make up a name, then her phone rang.
It was Darcy.

up as if she’d been rescued. She waved her phone in front of Drake. “See? He’s
She answered right away. “Hello.”
Venus took a call while heading out the door.
“Ms. Oracle, are you free today?” Darcy’s voice came through the line.
“Send me the address,” she said simply.
Darcy blinked on the other end, surprised she didn’t even ask what it was about. Excited, he said he’d pick her up himself. Darcy was already on his way to Stormvale.
Venus decided to wait for him outside.
A moment later, Saul came running after her. Without a word, he shoved a check into her hand.
“Saul, what’s this?” She asked, looking down at the signed and stamped blank check. She couldn’t help laughing.
“I told you, I’m not taking your money.”
“I know how your line of work goes,” Saul said earnestly. “Mr. Drake said he won’t let you help for free.”
Saul added, “He told me to pass a message; you can fill in whatever amount you want. Just don’t make it less than his net worth.”
Venus stared at him. “What do you mean, not less than his net worth?”
Saul grinned. “You saved Mr. Drake’s life. Tell me, how much do you think his life is worth? His value these days is at least in the hundreds of millions. You could write the number 999,999,999, and he’d still say it’s fair.”
“Seriously?”

“Of course! That’s the only number that fits his status. Anything less would make him look cheap. Trust me, that would really upset him.”
Venus fell silent.
Sure, she’d known Drake was rich, but she had no idea he was outrageously wealthy.
Before she could even return the check, Saul slipped away with a grin, clearly afraid she might actually return it.
Given Drake’s current condition, she knew he’d need her help for many things in the future.
