Read The Transactional Marriage That Imploded novel Bianca and Mathis Chapter 343 by Ansel Bick
Mathis snapped back furiously, "When your son was trying to drug me, did he consider our history?
I almost lost half my life the other night. If Simon hadn't been there, the woman he set me up with would have ruined me."
His marriage to Bianca was already hanging by a thread; if he had ended up sleeping with another woman, there was no way Bianca would ever take him back.
After lashing out at Caleb, it suddenly hit Mathis—this must be exactly how Bianca felt when his nephew, Lamont, had attacked her.
By bailing his sister out of jail, he had essentially handed down his own death sentence in Bianca's heart.
Outside the window, the setting sun was the color of blood, mirroring the bleeding, raw state of Mathis's own heart.
The girl who had once loved him with all her soul had been wounded by him all over again.
On the other end of the line, Caleb scoffed dismissively. "Men messing around at parties isn't a big deal. It's not like you haven't strayed yourself. Why are you clinging to this trivial mistake my son made?"
Mathis didn't spare the older man any courtesy. His voice dropped to a lethal register. "There's nothing more to discuss. If Payton had the nerve to set me up, he can face the legal consequences."
Caleb let out a cold laugh. "I heard your sister orchestrated an attack on your wife using your illegitimate son, and you let her off the hook completely. What? Are the Jaggers above the law? When she commits a crime, it's just swept under the rug?
Or does this 'deeply beloved' wife of yours simply not matter to you at all?
Mathis, you've always been an arrogant bastard, and my son only learned his dirty tricks from watching you.
If you don't drop the charges, I'm going straight to your grandfather to settle this."
Mathis ended the call with a dark scowl. His grandfather held no real power over his decisions.
But Caleb's words had hit their mark with devastating precision, leaving Mathis a restless, agitated mess.
He was right. Bianca was furious because he hadn't treated her like she mattered, because when forced to choose between her and his sister, he hadn't chosen her.
He couldn't let this mistake stand. He had to fix it immediately.
Otherwise, they truly would never find their way back to each other.
He dialed Rosalind and ordered her to come to Dawnstar Capital.
Rosalind arrived at his office looking upbeat. "What did you want to see me about?"
She had even brought Jayce along. After a lot of fussing from Rosalind, Jayce had temporarily put his childhood sweetheart on the back burner.
Jayce's parents had urged him to stick with the Jagger heiress. Even a few crumbs falling from the Jagger family's table would be enough to feed them for a year.
But Jayce found Rosalind's temper, endless demands, and sheer arrogance almost unbearable.
Male ego was a fragile, complicated thing. He wanted to climb the social ladder, but doing so made him deeply insecure.
