The True Heiress: Legend Mode novel Chapter 124

Juno wasn't stupid. She had been back with the Corrington family for a while now, and Matilda had clearly seen her today. The fact that the older woman hadn't initiated a conversation meant she was deliberately keeping her distance.

Why would Juno force herself into an uncomfortable situation?

Gwendolyn thought about it and realized her daughter had a point.

She had wanted to help mend the relationship between her mother and her daughter, but ultimately, that was something the two of them had to work out on their own.

As they walked, Gwendolyn's face suddenly lit up. "Juno! Your birthday is next month!"

Startled, Juno just stared at her. "...And?"

She gave her mother a look of pure confusion.

"Since you're finally home, we're going to throw you a massive party!"

"There's no need," Juno rejected immediately. "It's just a birthday."

Gwendolyn was adamant. "Absolutely not. We are going all out for you."

It wasn't just Gwendolyn who was fixated on this birthday; Gerda was just as invested.

She also wanted to throw a spectacular bash.

Juno honestly felt it was entirely unnecessary.

But it seemed her opinions went completely ignored.

If no one was going to listen to her, why even ask in the first place??

Since Matilda was recovering from a major illness, it was only proper for Gerda to visit her.

They were in-laws, after all.

Supported by a maid, Gerda sat down on the sofa, her face breaking into a polite smile. "How is your health holding up?"

Matilda shook her head. "Not what it used to be."

Rhiannon personally poured tea for the two matriarchs. Even though she knew Gerda preferred Juno over her, she flawlessly maintained her manners.

"Eat well, rest well," Gerda offered politely.

"I will," Matilda replied.

Matilda was the one to broach the topic. "We hosted Rhiannon's birthday banquet last year. We'll handle it again for her this year."

Juno: ...

Since arguing was pointless, she decided to just let them have their way.

As soon as Gerda returned home and announced the plans, Aunt Margie began making veiled, sarcastic remarks. "She's so capable and independent; why does she need us to throw her a party?"

Gerda glared at her. "Watch your tone."

Margie pursed her lips in annoyance.

Uncle Gordon immediately found a different angle to complain about. "Juno's last name isn't Corrington. In what capacity are we supposed to be hosting a birthday banquet for her?"

Since it was a family discussion, everyone spoke their minds openly.

Gordon's hostility was sharp. "What do you say, Juno? I just don't understand it. Now that you're back in the Corrington family, why do you refuse to change your last name?

Do you have any idea how much weight the Corrington name holds?"

Juno felt a headache coming on. She knew this was going to be a massive hassle.

Gordon glared at Juno, his stance unyielding. "If Juno refuses to change her name, I refuse to support this banquet."
