Chuck didn't say a word, just stared at her with ice in his eyes.
Having said her piece, Lucia lost interest. She had thought the old hag was hiding something massive in Kingsland, but it turned out to be just this pathetic joke of a girl.
Just a coincidence in name. How funny.
Juno planted both hands on her hips, screeching like a street shrew. "What is that supposed to mean?! Who is this other Juno you're talking about?! She should be honored we have the same name! If she's dead, she's dead! Are you saying I'm not good enough to stand next to Chuck?!"
Miles: Good lord, she's ruthless. She's even dragging herself.
Lucia found the whole situation utterly absurd. It had been ages since she had seen someone this brainless.
She didn't bother responding. Her eyes were colder than ice as her men supported her toward the exit. But as she walked past them...
Juno, fully embracing the essence of a petty brat, kicked her leg out. "This isn't over! You think you can just treat me like that and walk away?!"
Despite her men reacting instantly, Lucia still hit the ground hard. The impact jarred her wound, and she let out a pained groan.
Looks like she still feels pain.
Lucia's men instantly drew their guns. Miles drew his simultaneously, throwing both sides into a deadly standoff.
Juno immediately ducked back into Chuck's arms, whining sweetly, "Look at her..."
Lucia forced herself up, swallowing her rage with a face that screamed I'm not arguing with an idiot. She looked back with a chillingly innocent smile. "Ms. Mercer, you better bring a few more bodyguards when you go out. I'd hate for your family to suddenly lose you."
Playing her part to perfection, Juno burrowed deeper into Chuck's embrace.
Not daring to make any sudden moves, the enforcers carefully guided Lucia out.
Once outside, a subordinate asked, "That's it?" Were they just going to swallow this insult?
Lucia looked up. "Of course not. Keep an eye on her. I suspect she was faking it. Didn't Juno capture someone a few days ago?"
"Yes."
"Was it Maia's manager or someone?"
The moment she gave the order, the man vanished.
Since she couldn't see a mirror, she rubbed her face raw but was still covered in soot.
Chuck took the handkerchief from her hand and gently wiped her face himself. "Why did she come here?"
"My group made too much noise last night. It obviously caught Lucia's attention. It makes sense she'd come test the waters."
She hadn't been back long, but her identity had already been completely blown open.
She had a gut feeling that her peaceful days were officially over.
And she still had a month until college started.
As soon as Juno returned home, she spotted Rhiannon sneaking back toward her room, nervously clutching a large package. She avoided the elevator, and while rushing up the stairs, a photograph slipped out. Rhiannon didn't notice, completely focused on locking herself away.
Juno strolled over unhurriedly, leaning down to pick it up. The moment she saw what was on it, her pupils shrank and her fingers clenched white.
