The True Heiress: Legend Mode novel Chapter 146

Harrison spoke with authoritative steel, "Let them go."

"Where's the fun in that? Families should stick together. I'm just doing my part for your domestic harmony. If she actually shows up today, won't you be touched? You'll know you picked the right girl."

Gwendolyn's eyes were like ice. "Even if she doesn't come, our family won't be broken by this! And mark my words, someone will realize we're missing very soon. You have no idea what's coming for you."

Ian brushed off the threat. "Then we wait. By the way, right now, she's the only one who knows you're missing. I completely jammed the communication lines to both your family and the Jaggers. She can't call for backup."

So what exactly was a helpless girl supposed to do?

"You absolute coward!"

"It's always so boring when polite society tries to act tough. It's eight o'clock. You have thirty minutes. If she doesn't show, I guess I'll have to send you all back in pieces."

Ian's arrogant demeanor made it crystal clear he didn't care about the Corrington name.

There were only two types of people who wouldn't fear their family.

Out-of-towners.

Or someone with backing just as terrifying as their own.

Neither option was good.

"Boss! Someone's outside!"

The four family members jerked their heads up, silently pleading to whatever god was listening.

Please don't let it be her.

What could a sheltered young woman possibly do against an armed gang?

She was just throwing her life away!

Ian laughed, genuinely entertained. "Well, this just got interesting."

Brushing off his trousers, he strolled out of the warehouse.

Hearing the commotion, hundreds of armed thugs swarmed out of the surrounding buildings. Ian had planned for every contingency, bringing nearly his entire syndicate to ensure nothing went wrong.

"You blocked my communications so I couldn't reach anyone. I didn't have much of a choice but to come alone, did I?"

The family's hearts plummeted. So it really was just her.

"Since you figured out it was a trap, you're surprisingly obedient."

Juno casually rested one hand behind her back. A wickedly arrogant smirk curved her lips as her voice dropped into a dark, magnetic resonance. "Allow me to properly introduce myself."

"I am Juno Mercer. From Blackwood City."

Arrogant. Demonic.

The words were like a flare gun going off. The exact second she finished speaking, the deafening, earth-shattering roar of helicopter rotors ripped through the night.

From behind the derelict buildings, dozens of military-grade choppers surged into the sky simultaneously.

The sheer force of the downdraft kicked up a blinding storm of dust and debris, forcing everyone to shield their eyes.
