But how was that even possible?
She was supposed to be dead.
"Crash!"
With a deafening splintering of wood, the heavy oak doors were kicked entirely off their hinges.
Lucia's men instantly drew their weapons, aiming dead at the entrance.
She looked up. Two elite operatives flanked the doorway, followed by Morgan himself.
His expression was entirely unreadable. Without wasting a single word, he offered a mockingly polite gesture toward the door. "After you."
Her lieutenant stepped in front of her. "Boss! You can't go!"
Lucia raised a hand, silencing him instantly. Standing up, she smoothed her dress and walked out with Morgan without a shred of hesitation.
She had no idea where they were taking her, and she didn't bother looking out the window as the black SUV tore through the city streets.
A cold smirk crossed her mind. "Is she really in that much of a hurry to kill me?"
Eventually, they pulled up to an ultra-exclusive private club.
When Morgan escorted her inside, Juno was in the middle of a conversation.
"They're fine. The injuries are superficial. They'll wake up in about ten minutes."
Kian Zimmer's voice was strictly professional.
"Got it."
Seeing that she had nothing else to add, Kian turned and left the room.
He brushed right past Lucia at the door without a second glance.
At Juno's signal, the room was cleared. Morgan shoved Lucia into the center of the private suite.
With her petite frame, she looked like a fragile, harmless girl caught in a trap.
Her first words were blunt. "It really is you."
She knew it. The very first time they crossed paths in this city, her instincts had screamed the truth.
Juno didn't say a word.
Lucia opened her mouth to speak again, but before she could make a sound, Morgan delivered a brutal kick to the back of her knees. She hit the floor hard.
The sickening thud of bone against hardwood sounded agonizing, but she didn't so much as wince.
Lucia gasped for air.
To the rest of the world, Lucia Corbett was an untouchable queen of the underworld. But in front of Juno, she was reduced to this.
Outsiders would never understand, but anyone who had ever been in Juno's crosshairs knew the truth.
The girl was a literal monster.
Her sheer capacity for violence easily rivaled Chuck Yates.
They were two sides of the same terrifying coin.
Catching her breath, she asked respectfully, "Will you be returning to Blackwood City?"
"No. Which is why you are going to scrub tonight's events from this city until they sparkle. Not a single trace of me being alive gets out. If even one person finds out, you're a dead woman."
Her face drained of color. It was an outright death threat.
And an impossible mission.
Keep the secret buried.
If anyone found out—even if she wasn't the leak—she would pay with her life.
