The True Heiress: Legend Mode novel Chapter 199

He buried his face in the crook of her neck, his breath ghosting over her skin. "Why aren't you moved?" he mumbled, sounding genuinely frustrated.

"Juno!" Kaelen's voice rang out just as the doorknob turned.

In a fraction of a second, Juno shoved Chuck to the side, yanked the heavy blanket up, and completely buried him underneath it.

Her hair was a messy nest, completely ruining her usual composed, intimidating aura. Even worse, there was a highly suspicious flush on her cheeks.

When had Juno ever looked like this?

Kaelen walked in holding a stack of documents, but stopped dead in his tracks by the doorway.

He stared at the violently rumpled bed. "What are you..."

Juno quickly smoothed down her hair and put on her best poker face. "The bed was too soft. I couldn't get comfortable, so I was trying to adjust the sheets."

Kaelen stepped further inside. "You can just call a maid for that. You don't need to do it yourself."

Juno nodded stiffly. "It was right in front of me. Wasn't a big deal."

She walked over to the seating area to block his view, looking him directly in the eye. "Did you need something?"

Kaelen dragged his eyes away from the bed. "Oh... right. A foreign combat academy is coming to the estate tomorrow to spar with our people. Do you have time to watch?"

His gut told him Juno would be into this kind of thing.

Juno took the documents and barely glanced at them. She had zero interest in this, but she desperately needed Kaelen to leave. "Sure," she agreed instantly.

Seeing her agree so readily, Kaelen beamed. He knew she'd like it! "Great. It's getting late, so get some rest."

"I will."

Juno stood up to escort him out.

Just as she grabbed the doorknob, Kaelen suddenly spun around. Juno tightened her grip on the handle, ready to physically block him.

But Kaelen was too fast. He slipped right past her.

With that, he flipped back out the window.

He vanished into the dark, leaving her standing there, completely flustered by the cool night breeze.

.

The next morning, Kaelen cooked breakfast himself as an apology for his weird behavior the night before.

While Juno ate, he barely breathed.

He watched every single bite she took.

Finally, she couldn't take it anymore. "Are you not eating?"

Kaelen quickly grabbed his silverware. "Eating, eating."

Jeremy took a sip of his coffee, looked at the two of them, and casually threw a grenade into the conversation. "I heard Kaelen ripped Juno's blankets off her bed last night."
