Lorcan Yates's face changed. How could he really let her take the man away right in front of him?!
"Let's see who dares!"
"Bang!!"
As soon as the words left his mouth, Jett fired a shot, shattering a glass right next to him.
Shards exploded everywhere.
Lorcan drew in a sharp breath.
He was the eldest son of the Yates family. Did she really dare to shoot?!
Several subordinates moved with lightning speed, swiftly apprehending an unresisting Balfour Lytton.
Completely ignoring Lorcan, they hauled the man away.
Juno Mercer glanced back at Lorcan. "You better pray Balfour hands over the antidote, or you're next."
Once she left, everyone sprang into action.
Like a chain reaction.
The dining room instantly returned to normal, as if nothing had happened.
Breathing heavily, Lorcan stared at the shattered glass.
This was total rebellion!
Was this Juno Mercer really that arrogant?!
His gaze gradually darkened.
Why was someone with zero background acting so high and mighty?
Did she think tossing some money to hire Jett meant she was untouchable?
Heh.
What an ignorant fool. He would make her understand the consequences of crossing him!
No one had ever dared to be so insolent in his presence!
Balfour was thrown into the Obsidian Court's dungeon.
Within an hour, his previously clean clothes were stained with blood.
Lucia Corbett had interrogated him personally. Exhausted, she finally tossed her whip aside and stepped out.
Juno was waiting by the door. Lucia walked over. "He's stubborn. Didn't say a word."
Wearing the ring that symbolized her authority over the Obsidian Court on her index finger, Lucia twirled it slowly, her eyes unreadable.
Time ticked by. The men sent by Earle remained remarkably composed.
As long as she stayed silent, they didn't move.
Finally, as if suddenly coming to a realization, Lucia let out a soft chuckle. "Of course not. I'll have someone bring him out right away."
With a slight wave of her hand, movement stirred in the shadows.
A moment later, Miles and a few others wheeled the unconscious Chuck out.
Juno trailed silently behind them.
Leaning back lazily, Lucia said, "Here he is. Do as you wish."
Earle's men stepped forward to inspect him. After confirming it was Chuck, they escorted him away.
Once they were gone, Lucia rubbed her temples, nursing a budding headache. "Juno is really going through hell and back for Chuck."
Outside the Yates estate, she could watch Juno's back. But inside, the girl was entirely on her own.
The Yates family and the Obsidian Court had always stayed out of each other's business.
