The True Heiress: Legend Mode novel Chapter 222

It was an impenetrable fortress; once you went in, getting out was a different story.

Lorcan hadn't expected to see Juno in the morning, only for Chuck to show up that same afternoon.

His wounded arm throbbed dully. "Since he has the guts to come back, I'll make sure he doesn't leave alive."

"Bang!"

A silenced gunshot shattered the glass beside him with a muffled thud. Bloody scratches appeared on his handsome face, crimson beads oozing out instantly.

Seconds later, a burning pain set in.

Lorcan: ???

He shot to his feet, watching his men scramble outside in a panic to figure out what had just happened.

He was paying a bunch of useless idiots.

He'd been provoked twice in one day.

The only person with marksmanship like that was Jett, and Jett answered to Juno...

Both incidents had occurred right after Chuck returned.

Wait...

Speaking of his brother...

Lorcan rubbed a shard of the broken glass and spoke to the shadows. "I recall my father arranging a brilliant match for Chuck."

"Yes, sir."

"Since they're almost engaged, it'd be a shame not to mingle. Send word to the lady."

He tightened his grip on the glass shard. The sharp prick of pain cleared his mind.

Juno, was it?

So she had a thing for Chuck.

He would make sure she didn't get what she wanted!

When Earle summoned Juno over his son's impending engagement, she quickly realized that Lorcan wasn't the brightest bulb in the box.

The Yates estate was so massive it practically occupied half the city.

She was the picture of elegance.

Her footsteps were practically silent. Stopping in front of Juno, she spoke in fluent English.

"I hear your name is Juno. It's a lovely name, though entirely wasted on someone like you. But that's beside the point.

I want you to listen very carefully to what I'm about to say.

I am Chuck's fiancée. Now and forever, I will be the only one by his side. No matter how much you fancy him, Ms. Mercer, I suggest you weigh your options carefully. Take the payout and leave quietly, or foolishly try to go head-to-head with the Yates family.

Let me be clear: if you stand in my way, the entire Russell family will become your enemy."

It was a beautifully delivered threat.

Yet no matter how well Belinda masked it, Juno easily saw the utter contempt simmering beneath her polished facade.

She was an aristocrat, looking down her nose at a commoner.

"I've heard you're the heiress of the Corrington family from Kingsland. Perhaps back there, you're a big deal. But here? You're a nobody. So, have you made up your mind?"

Juno gave a slight nod. "Until he's fully recovered, I'm not going anywhere."
