The 'original' Juno Mercer had been the very first VIP that the old woman had ever granted entry.
Even Chuck had only been the second.
Today's crowd was exceptionally wealthy and powerful. Even if they were denied entry, they wouldn't kick up a fuss—after all, only a select few ever made the cut.
It would be absolutely hilarious if Chuck got in, but this cheap knockoff Juno was left standing on the curb.
She was going to show her exactly what it meant to be woefully out of her league.
Juno was riding in the same car as Chuck.
Morgan was also in the vehicle.
Every single one of the hundred Rolls-Royces had a bug planted underneath.
At this very moment, she was listening in on all of their conversations.
Rhiannon: "Mom, what if I don't get in? Kingsland and Jindale City are pretty similar in status. If she gets in and I'm left outside... it'll be so humiliating. Maybe we just shouldn't go..."
"Don't be ridiculous. If you don't get in, there's no way she will. At least you were raised in high society! She grew up in the middle of nowhere. No matter how much money the family poured into her, you can't wash the cheapness out of her blood."
Juno kept her head down, absently twisting a Rubik's Cube.
"Belinda already told us that today is all about putting that girl in her place. It's a given that Chuck will get in. The goal is to make sure she gets left outside.
Let's see how utterly humiliated she feels then, and whether she still has the nerve to hang around him. They're from two entirely different worlds. Forcing them together is just begging for embarrassment."
Juno solved the cube, then immediately scrambled it again.
The chatter across the frequencies was chaotic, filled with all sorts of gossip. Morgan listened in absolute silence.
Once she clicked off the receiver, he finally spoke. "Do you want me to give Mathea a heads-up that you're coming?"
Mathea was the name of the old woman at the door.
Twisting the cube with lightning speed, she replied in a low, dangerous tone, "If she can't even recognize me, she's fired."
She had only given her the job in the first place because the old woman had excellent intuition.
The Pinnacle Restaurant belonged to Juno.
It was her hub for networking with tycoons and gathering high-level intel.
That was its sole purpose.
She had capitalized on people's natural curiosity to build its mythic reputation. Countless people tried to get in, but she only allowed those who were genuinely useful to her.
Over time, her network had exploded, the spiderweb of connections elevating her higher and higher in the underworld.
Eventually, the restaurant had taken on a life of its own in the minds of outsiders, becoming a legend.
The motorcade slowly rolled to a stop.
Nestled in a valley surrounded by lush mountains, the scenery and fresh air were spectacular.
An antique-style building was partially hidden amidst the dense forest. Everyone stepping out of their cars instantly felt a wave of serenity wash over them.
She looked utterly defeated.
Juno stepped forward.
Mathea was just about to shake her head when Juno suddenly shifted her gaze to meet hers.
What a terrifying pair of eyes.
Like a viper, like a wolf—feral, bloodthirsty, and undeniably lethal.
Overwhelmingly dark.
The gaze of a born apex predator.
It looked exactly like... the original Juno Mercer.
A chilling jolt of familiarity shot from the soles of Mathea's feet straight to her brain, making her shudder violently.
No... this wasn't just someone like her. This WAS her.
One of Belinda's friends scoffed, "What's the holdup? There's no way she's getting in. Just reject her already."
Others chimed in, "Seriously! If the Russells and the Yates got rejected, what makes her so special?"
"Stop wasting everyone's time."
"Yeah, exactly."
