Balfour's head snapped to the side from the force of the blow. He spat out a mouthful of blood, his eyes gleaming with deranged excitement. "I want to see her!"
The man seemed completely incapable of feeling pain.
With a flick of his wrist, a dagger appeared in Chuck's hand, and he drove it straight into Balfour's shoulder blade.
Balfour let out a muffled groan, blood filling his mouth. "What are you so afraid of? Terrified that once she sees me, she'll realize she doesn't want you?"
Chuck: ?
Chuck yanked the blade out, debating where to stab him next.
The sound of the dungeon door opening echoed again.
A sudden chill crept up Chuck's spine.
He turned around to see Juno standing in the doorway.
Juno's eyes completely locked onto Chuck, completely ignoring the other man in the room. "Fully recovered now?"
Already jumping around causing trouble so soon?
Chuck quietly flipped the dagger and tucked it away.
He didn't even care that the blood on it was staining his clothes.
Juno tilted her head. "It's damp down here. Are you not coming up, or are you planning to move in?"
Chuck was completely caught off guard.
His Adam's apple bobbed. "Coming up right now."
He took two steps, then glanced back. "You're not coming?"
"I am."
Juno hadn't so much as glanced at Balfour.
"Juno!!" Balfour panicked.
She stopped in her tracks. "Don't use that name. It's disgusting when you say it."
Balfour's face visibly paled. "You... I thought now that you remembered..."
Juno turned to face him fully. "Remembered what? You thought getting my memory back meant I'd spare you a second glance?"
"Rocco Lytton was a monster, but once I consolidated my power, I carved him into pieces myself! I even recorded it. You can watch the tape whenever you want." He spoke so frantically he choked and began coughing.
Juno stood perfectly still. "I didn't just remember your face. I also remembered that when Chuck was ready to take down the Yates family, you were the one who interfered and colluded with Lorcan."
Back then, Balfour had reverse-hypnotized Lucia, stolen the master plan from her, and used Juno as bait to sabotage Chuck.
Anything involving Juno was guaranteed to mess with Chuck's head.
"I never wanted you to get hurt! I just wanted Chuck dead! I love you, Juno! I'd never harm you! If you hadn't realized something was wrong and rushed over at the last second, you would've been perfectly safe!"
A vicious coldness settled over Juno's features. "I got shot dead because of you, and now you have the nerve to tell me you love me? Oh, let me guess, I deserved a bullet because I made my own choices without asking your permission first?"
Balfour was struck speechless.
Juno's tone dripped with sarcasm. "Mad? Oh, I'd never dare be mad. What if I get a little too angry and you just decide to wipe my memory again?"
Juno completely ignored him and walked straight into the conference room.
Judging by the time, Lucia had probably already assembled everyone.
Miles crept up the stairs, having stayed completely out of sight during their argument.
He approached extremely cautiously. He swore he was being as careful and subservient as humanly possible. "Sir, did you and Ms. Mercer have a fight?"
Chuck snapped instantly. "Who said we fought?!"
Miles immediately shrank back like a terrified quail.
Right, right, definitely no fighting.
Just his boss getting verbally destroyed.
...
The people seated in the conference hall were the core elite of the Obsidian Court.
Everyone present was dressed impeccably, their every movement exuding the refined power of elite tycoons.
One of them handed over a sleek envelope. "Kingsland and Jindale City are co-developing a new project. They've invited LORD."
They likely wanted her investment.
Usually, Lucia handled these affairs, but now Juno was back.
