The fierce, brilliant existence of the real Juno Mercer felt like a fleeting dream.
Life returned to a dull normal. The Obsidian Court immediately halted all plans to expand their influence into Kingsland.
It was almost as if Juno had never been there at all.
She was nothing more than an illusion they had all shared.
The woman returned to Northbridge University, but she found the coursework unbearably difficult. Within just a month, her grades plummeted to the absolute bottom of the class, if not worse.
In physical education, she couldn't even manage to dribble a basketball. The rest of the class watched as she clumsily chased the ball across the court.
The male students were genuinely baffled.
Why did Juno suddenly seem so pathetic?
Finally, Claire Ashworth retrieved the ball for her. As she handed it over, and the woman clumsily caught it with both hands, Claire asked out of sheer confusion, "Where exactly have you been lately?"
How could someone change so drastically?
She was acting like a total stranger, nothing like the Juno she knew.
She had already been reprimanded by the coach multiple times that day.
The woman shook her head nervously. "I... I don't really remember."
Claire felt a flicker of genuine concern but decided to drop the subject.
Over time, it became undeniable that something was terribly wrong with her.
It was as if her entire identity had been swapped out.
Despite the bizarre behavior, Claire stayed by her side. After all, her current respected position within the Ashworth family was entirely thanks to Juno's influence.
It wasn't just her inner circle who noticed the shift; even Faye Ashworth picked up on it.
She casually mentioned it to Rhiannon Corrington, "I have no idea what's going on with Juno lately, but her grades have completely tanked."
Rhiannon looked entirely unbothered. "Isn't that great news? She completely bailed on our bet, and now that she's actually showing up to class, she's failing. It just proves all the rumors about her being useless were right."
Knowing who Juno truly was, Rhiannon had at least been smart enough not to provoke her directly.
Faye thought about it and agreed.
Juno had barely attended class this semester. Her academic credits were severely depleted, and with her failing so many subjects, she was practically guaranteed to be transferred to the remedial program next term.
The remedial program was specifically designed for students on the verge of academic dismissal.
The light in Morgan's eyes instantly died, plunging into absolute coldness. "What do you want?"
"Ah... well, the thing is, my grades have really slipped... Could you maybe pull some strings and fix them for me?"
She absolutely didn't want to go to the remedial classes.
The academic pressure here was suffocating; she couldn't understand a single thing the professors were saying.
Morgan hung up instantly, without a single second of hesitation.
The woman stared at the disconnected call screen, completely stunned.
She was ready to tear her hair out from the stress. "I don't want to retake these classes. Can't I just drop out?"
The Corrington family was so wildly rich and powerful anyway. Did it really matter if she didn't study?
Hearing this, Claire couldn't help but look at her sideways. "You were never like this before."
The woman finally snapped. A surge of blind rage consumed her, and she wanted to throw everything off the desk—but it was all too expensive, and she couldn't bear to break it. Holding in her frustration, she screamed at Claire, "Everyone keeps telling me I wasn't like this before! What was I like before?! I grew up in a tiny village! I came back here to enjoy a life of luxury! Not to suffer through school and get judged by everyone!!"
