While she was stressing, the office door clicked open. Margie looked up to see her mother.
Gerda walked in, leaning on her assistant for support. "What's wrong? Stressing over the new product launch?"
Margie stood up, her eyes heavy with exhaustion, and hurried over to help the older woman to the sofa. Once Gerda was seated, the assistant quietly slipped out of the room.
Just thinking about it made Margie's head throb. "Yes. It's virtually impossible to launch on schedule without ruining her reputation."
Gerda rested both hands heavily on her cane. "Have faith in her. Just wait a little longer."
Waiting was all they could do.
There was simply no other way.
With the launch date fast approaching, Juliana and Mrs. Dempsey invited Juno out.
The two women were exceptionally warm, practically escorting her up to the second floor of the restaurant.
The impostor's ears burned red. She felt completely out of her depth being fussed over like this.
She had never set foot in a place this fancy before. She tried her hardest to brush it off and act relaxed, but to the other two, she still looked incredibly stiff.
Mrs. Dempsey exchanged a glance with Juliana. "It hasn't even been that long, how come Juno is acting so distant?"
The woman offered an awkward, tight smile. "No, no, not at all."
Both women were highly suspicious.
The real Juno never carried herself like this.
After they sat down, the server handed over the menus and stood by to take their order.
The woman stared down at the menu. The entire thing was printed in English.
Noticing her struggle, the server discreetly leaned in, quietly asking about her preferences in plain language and offering recommendations.
The woman just nodded along to whatever the server suggested, and soon the ordering was done.
Her palms were sweating. She awkwardly wiped them back and forth against her pants.
Trying to look less completely out of place, she reached for her glass of water and took a sip.
Juliana cut right to the chase. "Juno, we brought you out today to ask for a favor regarding LK's new releases."
Mrs. Dempsey pondered for a long time before finally voicing her thoughts. "Why do I feel like Juno... isn't her?"
Juliana looked at her like she was crazy. "What are you talking about? You've lost me."
What did she mean, 'Juno wasn't her'?
Mrs. Dempsey shook her head. "I'm just overthinking. Let's go."
"Right."
That lunch had practically given the impostor a heart attack.
She desperately needed to go back and study some basic etiquette. Otherwise, she'd make an even bigger fool of herself next time.
Walking back, she replayed the lunch in her head, feeling immense gratitude toward Juliana for saving her.
Instead of grabbing a cab, she wandered the bustling streets, watching the endless stream of diverse people passing by.
She was fascinated by everything around her.
