"You're about to find out just how catastrophically stupid your choice was," Morgan's voice was an icy rasp. "And don't think for a second that a nobody like you can do the Yates family's dirty work and walk away."
A flicker of genuine panic sparked in the official's chest, but he forced it down. The moment he showed fear, he lost.
"If you're getting out of here anyway, and the Obsidian Court is going to kill me regardless, then I might as well get my money's worth, right?!"
Without waiting for his guard to move, the official frantically grabbed a loaded syringe from the case and lunged, aiming straight for the jugular.
Morgan raised his hand to catch the man's wrist to stop him, but his muscles were utterly drained. He hadn't fully recovered.
The needle completely missed his neck and plunged deep into his palm.
It didn't go all the way through.
The official lacked the brute strength.
If it had been a trained fighter, Morgan's hand would have been pinned.
With manic speed, the official ripped the needle out and stabbed wildly again, this time sinking it into the side of Morgan's neck.
He had no idea what he was hitting; he just slammed the plunger down.
Morgan slumped heavily against the table, his breathing erratic.
Tossing the empty syringe aside, the official let out a deranged, hysterical laugh. "Hahahaha! If I'm going down, I'm taking you bastards with me!"
Morgan clamped a hand over his neck, desperately trying to force the poison out, but it was futile.
The serum was already racing through his veins.
The effects hit instantly, draining every drop of color from Morgan's face.
If the first dose had felt like swarms of biting ants, this was like being impaled by thousands of burning spears.
Morgan collapsed hard onto the concrete, his lungs struggling for air. Wave after violent wave of excruciating pain shredded his nervous system. His eyes, blown wide, flooded with stark red capillary lines.
The veins in his neck and arms bulged grotesquely.
The paralysis started at his feet and crawled upward. He couldn't move.
A thin trickle of dark blood leaked from the corner of his mouth, followed by blood seeping from his ears and eyes.
