"You bitch!!"
Juno scratched her head, finding the woman's shrieking utterly obnoxious. It was getting late, and she still had a holiday dinner to get back to.
She stood up and headed for the exit. As she passed the man lying on the floor, she crouched down. "You wanted to force yourself on a woman, right? Consider your wish granted."
Ryker walked over, bent down, and unceremoniously dragged the guy away.
Having wrapped things up, Juno strode out with long, confident steps.
Her silhouette was just like before—proud, untamed, and entirely unbothered by the world's rules.
Lucia wrinkled her nose.
When Juno was recovering, she'd barely managed to keep a lid on her temper. Now that she was healed, she finally had the capital to be as arrogant as she pleased.
From the looks of it, being weakened had practically suffocated her.
Seeing that she was no longer needed here, Lucia turned to leave.
After a couple of steps, she remembered something and spun back to look at Miles, a mischievous glint in her large eyes. "I recall you asking Kian Zimmer for the antidote when you got here. Haven't you been trying to play matchmaker for Chuck and our LORD? By bringing the antidote now, aren't you ruining your boss's chances?"
Miles looked down at her, not even trying to hide the pure disdain in his eyes, as if she'd suggested something incredibly vile. "Until Ms. Mercer agrees of her own free will, my boss would never cross that line."
He cherished her too much.
That was why Chuck had slashed his own arm so many times—not just to stay lucid enough to prevent Belinda from touching him.
It was also to ensure that, in his drug-addled state, he wouldn't accidentally hurt Juno.
He refused to let their relationship escalate just because of some chemical influence.
He cherished her too much for that.
Miles's piercing look stung Lucia's pride.
She marched right up to him, annoyed. "What the hell was that look for?!"
"Nothing at all. If Ms. Corbett wants to overthink it, I can't stop you."
"Sounds like you want a bullet in your head!"
Feeling her authority challenged, Lucia flared up in anger.
"If Ms. Corbett wants to shoot, be my guest," Miles brushed her off.
"You think I won't?!" Lucia snapped, flushed with irritation.
"I'm sure you will, I'm sure you will," he replied, his tone dripping with impatient sarcasm.
Juno climbed into the car and saw Chuck slumped to the side. She moved closer, her cool hand resting gently against his neck.
