As soon as she reached the ground floor, Matilda hurried over to ask, "I turned around and you were just gone. Where have you been all this time?"
Juno leaned down slightly to match the older woman's height. "Just taking care of some personal matters."
Since it was personal, it obviously wasn't something to be pressed on.
Matilda didn't pry. She just nodded and gave a worried reprimand. "It's freezing outside, and you're dressed so lightly. Don't go running around when you haven't fully recovered."
"I won't."
With so many people around, Matilda couldn't fuss too much, so she kept it brief and let her go.
The exact moment Juno took her seat, a hushed silence fell over the massive dining hall.
Lucia sat up straight. "Bring out the food! Bring it out!"
The staff had been waiting right outside the doors. Once this final dish was served, they would finally get to rest.
Platters of steaming food were placed on the tables, and the atmosphere grew warm and festive. No one even mentioned the time Juno had been missing.
When the meal wrapped up, Lucia stood up and had someone open the doors. "LORD has prepared a gift for everyone. You can head down to the lower level to pick them up."
There were too many items to bring up to the main hall.
They were practical, everyday things—nothing overly extravagant.
After all, none of them were short on money.
The gifts were simply Juno's way of showing she cared about the people working for her.
To outsiders, the Obsidian Court seemed like a cold, ruthless organization bound by rigid hierarchies. Internally, however, they were a tight-knit family that always had each other's backs.
After dinner, everyone moved up to the rooftop terrace.
The lights of the Obsidian Court blazed against the night sky. The sleek, cutting-edge architecture was illuminated in striking tones of gold and silver, reflecting brilliantly off the snow and giving the entire estate an ultra-luxurious, futuristic glow.
From the twenty-second floor of the Serenity Hall, you could look out over the entire Obsidian Court compound.
It was only then that the Corrington and Jagger families finally understood what Juno had meant earlier when she said the snowscapes in Blackwood City were uniquely beautiful.
This was Juno's empire.
And everyone there was incredibly proud of her.
Fireworks shot up from the grounds below, illuminating the dark sky in spectacular bursts.
The top leaders of various divisions began shouting out their toasts.
"Here's to LORD staying safe and healthy this year! May the money keep rolling in!"
"Here's hoping the Obsidian Court sees fewer disasters!"
Everyone yelled their wishes into the night.
"And here's hoping our Ms. Corbett finally hits her growth spurt!"
The moment that shout echoed across the roof, a dead silence fell over the crowd. For a split second, there wasn't a single human sound—only the booming cracks of fireworks lighting up the sky.
