Chuck buried his face in her neck, inhaling her faint scent as he whined softly. "Why were you gone so long?"
Juno's long eyelashes fluttered as she leaned back against the tiled wall.
His voice was intensely husky. "Help me, yeah?"
Whether she agreed or not, the distinct *click* of his belt buckle echoed in the dark.
And then his hands guided hers lower...
Juno squeezed her eyes shut, simply letting him guide her through the motions.
His breath ghosted over her ear, growing heavier and heavier.
She lost track of how long they stayed in the bathroom before the lights finally flickered back on.
Chuck wrapped his arms around her from behind as she washed her hands at the sink.
Her hand was incredibly sore.
She absolutely did not want to speak right now.
The next few days passed in a lively, festive blur.
People dropped by to visit, bringing gifts and well wishes in a constant stream.
A week flew by in the blink of an eye.
Lucia called a high-level meeting.
LORD had never had the chance to enjoy a proper education. She had been thrown into the brutal reality of survival before she could ever experience campus life. She had only managed to earn her Ph.D. by relentlessly studying in whatever sparse free time she could scrape together.
Truthfully, Lucia hadn't initially approved of Juno going to Kingsland for college. But on second thought, if this was a chance for her to make up for lost time, why stop her?
Juno had saved so many of them from lives of regret; she deserved the right to experience something normal for herself.
A university was a place built in the sunlight, whereas the Obsidian Court operated entirely in the shadows. Even in the short time Juno had been back, she had already seen her fair share of bloodshed. A person's mind couldn't stay wound that tight forever without eventually snapping.
Lucia had never seen Juno truly carefree and glowing with youthful energy.
Letting her soak up that relaxed, sunny atmosphere would be good for her.
No life-or-death decisions, no crushing responsibilities—just a slow, easy college life where she could finally breathe.
Pulling her thoughts back to the present, Lucia asked, "LORD is heading back to Kingsland after the holidays. Are there any lingering issues with her health?"
She was directing the question at Kian Zimmer.
Kian shook his head. "She's fully recovered. Do we have an exact date for when the Kingsland crew is leaving?"
