Juno barely reacted. She tilted her head slightly toward Warren standing behind her. "Tell Basil York to throw the Talbot family to the wolves."
"Understood."
It had been close to the end of the year before, and she had been too lazy to settle the score. But now that she was back, she wasn't about to let them off the hook so easily.
The tangled mess of the truth from years ago didn't interest Juno enough for her to personally hunt down every detail. The Corrington family could sort through that at their own pace.
After the meeting dispersed, Lucia could only marvel at the sheer absurdity of it all.
"Your daughter gets switched at birth. Then you find out the fake daughter wasn't even born to an ordinary family—she belongs to a rival wealthy household. And if that wasn't enough, you now discover the fake daughter is still secretly in contact with her biological family."
To all this, Lucia only had one thing to say: "High society is a bloody mess."
The incredibly convoluted web of relationships made her head spin.
Gwendolyn walked over and placed a gentle hand on Juno's shoulder. "From now on, just focus on your studies. You don't need to worry about anything else."
"Alright."
Juno hadn't planned on meddling too much anyway.
The next day, Lucia accompanied Juno to Northbridge.
Lucia had her people forge a student ID for herself.
She needed to sit in on the Diploma Program classes. Claire Ashworth was waiting eagerly at the entrance. When she saw them arriving, she practically jumped for joy, waving her arms frantically. "Juno!! Over here!"
Juno and Lucia walked over.
Claire lunged forward and enveloped Juno in a massive hug. "Juno! I haven't seen you in a month! I missed you so much!!"
Lucia, feeling very much like a third wheel, muttered, "Annoying."
All the joy belonged exclusively to Juno.
Lucia stood off to the side, utterly bored, watching the two friends warmly greet each other.
All she could hear was Claire endlessly nagging Juno.
"We're not in the same building for classes this semester. Will you be okay on your own? I heard the Diploma Program at Northbridge is full of all sorts of shady characters. I'm a bit worried about you. I'll come keep you company whenever I have free time."
She just couldn't rest easy leaving Juno by herself.
In a rare display of sarcasm, Lucia interjected, "If memory serves, Juno was the one bailing you out most of the time last semester, wasn't she?"
Claire, who had been fussing like an old grandmother, stopped mid-sentence.
Ah, well...
Claire offered a sheepish, wide grin.
That did seem to be the case.
Lucia started walking forward. "Wrap it up, you two. It's not like you're never going to see each other again."
She seriously doubted a useless girl like Claire could actually protect Juno from anything.
