Basil raised his hand, gripped Ziegler's jaw, and forcefully wrenched his face forward, forcing him to open his eyes. The phone unlocked with a chime.
Basil took one look, confirmed the recording was indeed running, and then tossed the phone to the men behind him.
He said, "I'm a civilized man. I don't engage in arson or robbery. I originally intended to have a polite discussion with you, but you simply don't know what's good for you."
"Since that's the case, I'll be taking this phone. Oh, and by the way, the Juno Mercer you so casually sneer at is my boss. I'll let you off the hook for today. But if you don't do exactly as I said, when Juno comes looking for you herself, it won't end with just a confiscated phone."
Dropping that final warning, Basil turned on his heel and walked away.
To the outside world, he was known as an approachable, refined gentleman. In reality, that was nothing more than a carefully crafted persona.
Truth and fiction were often blurred; who could really say what was real?
As Basil walked past Gwendolyn, he offered a pleasant greeting. "You should head home early, Mrs. Corrington. Mr. Corrington's people should be arriving right about now."
Gwendolyn's eyes softened. "Thank you."
Basil dismissed it casually. "No need to thank me. We're only doing this for LORD."
Otherwise, who would care if the Corrington family lived or died?
It was simply a transaction of mutual benefit.
Having said his piece, Basil departed with his entourage of bodyguards.
As for whether anyone else at the venue had secretly filmed or recorded Basil's actions—that was a mess for Chuck Yates to clean up.
The trending topics were taken down swiftly.
But there were always internet trolls refusing to let it go.
"That's it? They just pulled the trending tags just like that? The power of capital is truly terrifying. How amusing."
"So disgusting. The Corrington family's little apology stunt was just to make themselves feel better. Why didn't we see them donating money before this? I'm never spending another dime on their businesses. They use our hard-earned money to buy their daughters a spot in elite universities. Rich people sure know how to scheme. I bet my money helped pay for Juno Mercer's tuition, too!"
"Stop hating for a second. Didn't they already clarify this at the press conference? Rhiannon Corrington was expelled from Northbridge, and Juno Mercer's academic records were verified."
"What a joke. With enough money, what can't they fake? You think they can't just bribe someone to forge a piece of paper?"
"You're just bitter."
"The guy above is hilarious. You're definitely a bot paid by the Corringtons, right?"
