And the person being frantically wheeled in on the stretcher was Juno.
Kian shoved his phone into his pocket and sprinted forward.
Because Rhiannon and her group were standing perfectly in line with Juno's incoming stretcher, from Rhiannon's perspective, it looked as though Kian was running straight toward her.
For the first time in her life, her heart did a frantic flutter.
The sight of Kian Zimmer desperately rushing toward her was incredibly attractive.
Margie smiled in satisfaction. "Have you two met before? He looks incredibly worried about you."
"No, we haven't," Rhiannon said, keeping her eyes fixed on him.
She couldn't look away.
As Kian drew closer and closer, Margie's smile widened, and a visible blush crept across Rhiannon's cheeks.
Margie was just about to say something else when, to her utter shock, Kian sprinted right past them.
He was moving so fast his white coat billowed behind him, his short hair whipped into a mess.
He and the entire flock of elite medical professors charged toward Juno with an intensity that looked like a cavalry rushing into battle.
He reached the stretcher, immediately grabbing hold to push Juno toward the operating room, his voice dropping into a dead-serious register. "Status?"
Morgan rapidly fired off the details of her condition.
Within seconds, they reached the OR doors. Kian's eyes were sharp and unyielding. "Leave her to me."
And with that, the doors swung shut behind him.
Harrison and Gwendolyn had noticed Babur's presence and realized something was terribly wrong. They quickly hurried over, finding a group of people they didn't recognize standing outside the OR.
Gwendolyn barely paid them any mind. She grabbed Babur. "What happened?"
Babur's eyes were entirely bloodshot. "Mom! Juno got hurt trying to save me!"
Tears streamed down his face.
"What?" Gwendolyn gasped sharply.
The girl they had just rushed in was Juno?!
Harrison couldn't just ignore his sister. "Yes."
Margie immediately felt defensive on Rhiannon's behalf. "Well, you can't just stand out here waiting all day. Her surgery won't be done anytime soon. Rhiannon is injured too. You should go check on her first."
Harrison was thoroughly irritated by her tone. "If you want to check on her, go check on her. Juno is literally in surgery. As her aunt, you should know better..."
He cut himself off, realizing it was completely pointless trying to reason with her.
Roughly two hours later, the OR lights flicked off.
Chuck instantly sprang out of his chair and strode toward the doors, with Morgan right on his heels.
Even Babur, supported by Gwendolyn, hopped on one leg over to the entrance.
Harrison stepped forward. Chuck and Morgan, realizing he was Juno's biological father, reluctantly took a half-step back to give him space.
Kian shot Harrison a cold, indifferent look. "The surgery was a success. She managed to dodge at the very last second, avoiding any fatal blows. If the impact had been just a little more severe, she could have suffered permanent brain damage."
Everyone looked incredibly grim until Babur, standing in the very back, piped up, "Brain damage? Is she going to end up drooling and babbling for the rest of her life?"
