Chuck's face was darker than a thundercloud. Why was there constantly someone trying to stand between him and Juno?
Janet felt a chill shoot down her spine. She turned around to see Chuck towering over her like an absolute demon, looking like he wanted to drown her in the nearest storm drain. She entirely lost the ability to speak.
Juno, however, was perfectly relaxed. She simply grabbed Chuck by the arm and pulled him toward his car. "Come on. My brother caused a mess, so I guess I have to go clean it up."
If Harrison found out Babur was acting like a delinquent in school, he would break the kid's legs the second he got home. Which was why Rhiannon had spent the last few years secretly rushing to the school to cover for him.
Chuck was still wildly displeased, throwing one last death glare at Janet before getting into the driver's seat.
...
Kingston High School.
The Corrington family was ridiculously elite, but they firmly believed in not raising entitled snobs, which was why Babur was sent to a standard public high school. Absolutely no one there knew who his family actually was.
Chaos was currently raging inside the Dean's office.
"Your school better give me a damn explanation!"
The man's booming voice was so loud it was making the Dean's ears ring.
Despite this, the Dean forced a polite, deeply strained smile. "Sir, please, there's no need to shout. We've already called Babur down here, we can talk this through calmly."
The man's voice instantly pitched an octave higher. "Calmly?! How the hell am I supposed to be calm?!"
He aggressively shoved his phone screen into the Dean's face. "Open your damn eyes and look! My son got beaten to a pulp by a student at your school! I haven't heard a single apology, and you expect me to cover the medical bills?!"
The Dean helplessly glanced at the photo again. He had already seen it—the kid had taken a savage beating, his face swollen beyond recognition.
No matter what had actually started the fight, the safest administrative play was always to apologize first.
"Yes, of course, this is completely our fault."
Rhiannon had been sitting there quietly for a while, realizing that as long as the parent was this unhinged, there was no way to negotiate.
She leaned in and whispered to Babur, "Just tell them the truth. Tell them you didn't hit him. That makes this much easier to solve. Juno doesn't go to this school, so it won't matter if you drop her name. Our family is powerful enough that they won't let Juno take the blame."
"Hell no! Why would I drag her into this? I hit him, end of story!"
Rhiannon rubbed her temples, nursing a massive headache.
Trying to reason with a man like Damian Wright felt like trying to play a symphony to a brick wall. She was supposed to be a star on the debate team. But even the best debater was useless against a raging lunatic.
Damian was still screaming across the room, "Let me tell you right now! Just because you're a fancy school doesn't mean I'll let this slide! If you don't give me answers today, I'm calling the local news and exposing all of you!"
When in doubt, threaten the school's PR. If the situation blew up, the administration would cave instantly.
The Dean finally turned to Babur. "Babur? Do you have an explanation for this?"
