All traces of worry had vanished from Lucas‘ eyes.

He didn’t even bother to bend down–just glanced at the stunned butler and said flatly, “Call an ambulance. Get her out of here.”
He didn’t sound like he was talking about someone he’d once loved. It was more like he was dealing with a piece of trash that was in the way.
The ambulance arrived quickly. Paramedics loaded the unconscious Sophia onto a stretcher.
Not a single member of the Ashford family stepped forward to check on her.
Lucas‘ gaze shifted to the child still sitting on the floor.
Jeremy seemed unable to process everything that had just happened. He remained on the cold hardwood, staring blankly toward the empty doorway, his eyes hollow–as if his soul had been stripped away.
But he was no longer Lucas‘ son.
A call was placed to social services.
For now, Sophia and the child were taken care of, but Lucas knew the real challenge would come tomorrow at the office.
He let out a weary sigh and retreated to his room alone.
From the back of a drawer, he pulled out an old photo album he hadn’t touched in years. Flipping it open, he found the handful of pictures he’d taken with Riley.
n each one, Riley’s eyes were bright and smiling, clear and untroubled. She leaned gently against him, relaxed and content.
Looking at her untouched expression, Lucas felt a sudden, quiet certainty settle in his chest.
This time, he’d clear away every complication within six months. Then he’d give Riley the wedding he’d once planned for Sophia- only bigger, more public, and truly meant for her. She would become the real Mrs. Ashford.
Meanwhile, Riley and Sebastian’s private jet touched down in Nexopolis late into the night.
When the Rolls–Royce pulled up smoothly in front of the city hall, Sebastian took in the darkened building and locked doors. Disappointment radiated from him almost visibly.
He’d planned so carefully and come so far, only to be stalled by the hour–forced to wait another full night.
Riley watched his jaw tighten and his lips press into a thin line. She couldn’t help but find it a little amusing.
Here was the head of the Torres family, a man whose ruthless business decisions left people trembling, now acting like a kid who’d been told he had to wait until morning for his candy.
She offered a calming smile. “We’ll be the first ones here when they open tomorrow. Don’t worry–I promise I won’t oversleep.”
Sebastian turned toward her, meeting her warm expression. Some of the frustration in his chest eased. Eventually, he started the car and drove them back to his residence.

It was a penthouse on the top floor of a prestigious building overlooking the riverfront, with panoramic views of the water and the city skyline.
The interior was done in the clean, minimalist style Riley recognized–almost identical to his estate back in Havenbrook.
But amid all the sleek, cool tones, a large glass display case in the living room stood out.
Inside weren’t priceless antiques, but rows of classic video game collectibles and limited–edition figures.
And placed carefully at the center was a crystal trophy.
Riley walked over, curious, and read the small engraving on its base. It was the duo championship trophy from a now–discontinued classic game’s global online tournament.
She raised her eyebrows slightly.
Winning a two–player championship in a game with millions of players worldwide was no small feat.
For some reason, flashes of memory seemed to dart through her mind–the rapid click of keyboards, the roar of victory through a headset, the excited voice of a teenage teammate over an old voice chat…
The fragments moved too quickly to grasp.
Just as she tried to focus, Sebastian’s voice came from a guest room down the hall, pulling her back.
“I had some clothes delivered for you to change into. They’ll be here in a minute.”
