The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 414

Holden got to his feet, slid his hands into his pockets, and strode forward. He stopped in front of them. “It’s my fault. I apologize to your cousin. I’m sorry.”

Luke clenched his fists, glaring at him.

“But he hit my brother last time, so I guess we’re even.”

“Even?” Max’s voice was cold and sharp. “There’s no such thing as even with me.”

Holden’s eyes lost their easy confidence. “So what are you going to do, Max?”

The words had barely left his mouth when Max’s fist connected with Holden’s jaw. The punch landed hard. Holden crashed to the ground.

Everyone froze, too stunned to move.

Luke stared in shock, trying to figure out what Max was thinking.

Felicia jumped at the sudden violence. Max was always so calm, so in control. She’d never seen him lose it in public. Maybe he did it to protect Luke. Maybe for Andrea. Andrea had just cried her heart out. He had to do something.

Andrea couldn’t believe what she’d just witnessed. She’d never seen Max so fierce. Her heart pounded in her chest. He’d always been gentle with her, but he’d never stood up for her like this. There was something wild and magnetic about him in that moment, something she’d always longed for. She almost wished that punch had been for her.

But it wasn’t. It was for Luke. Luke was family. Hurting him was like insulting Max himself.

Holden’s bodyguards stepped up, but he waved them off. They helped him up anyway.

He wiped the blood from his lip, shot Max a crooked grin. “So, are we even now?”

Max’s eyes were pitch black and icy. “Now we’re even.”

Andrea hurried over, worry all over her face. “Max!”

“I’m fine.”

Felicia glared at them both, her eyes icy cold.

Max turned his gaze on Felicia too.

“I don’t care about your card. I don’t care if she wants to use it or not. Just don’t show it off in front of me.”

But the card was already gone. In the chaos, it must have slipped to the floor. Felicia glanced down and spotted the black card lying there.

Max noticed too.

Andrea shot Felicia a furious glare.

The store manager, quick on the uptake, hurried over, picked up the card, wiped it clean, and handed it back to Max.

Holden let out a mocking laugh. “Your girl just said Evelynn used to be fat, ugly, and desperate enough to drug a man to get him into bed. Is that true?”
