Max looked over at her, a small smile curling at the corner of his mouth.

Felicia froze for a second, but she quickly pulled herself together. The warmth in her eyes faded, replaced by a calm, almost distant expression.

Max caught the change right away. He grabbed a tissue from Anne’s backpack and handed it to her. “Here, wipe your forehead.”

It was a warm day, and the little bit of exercise had left her with a light sheen of sweat. Felicia took the tissue and murmured a soft thank you.

Max crouched down in front of Anne, gently wiping the sweat from her forehead. Then he poured water from a thermos into two cups and handed them over.

They took a break. Soon, the next round of games was about to start.

This time, Max was going to play with Anne. He passed his things to Felicia, including the camera. “Get plenty of videos,” he said.

Felicia nodded and took everything from him.

Max slipped off his jacket. “Can you hold this for me?”

Felicia looked at the jacket, hesitating for a moment.

“Evelynn, help Daddy with his jacket! The game’s starting!” Anne called out, a little impatient.

That finally got Felicia moving. She took the jacket and stuffed it into the bag she was carrying.

For this round, Jeremy teamed up with Yara. Heather and Felicia stood next to each other, both recording the games on their phones.

Max took Felicia and Anne to an upscale restaurant for lunch.

Meanwhile, Alyza was busy texting photos to Trey. In every shot, the three of them looked like the picture of a happy family.

Trey forwarded the photos to Holden. “Don’t they look just like a family?”

Holden called almost immediately. “Where did these come from?”

“I got Alyza to send them to me. Yara’s school had a family event today. Yara and Max’s daughter are pretty close, and it looks like Evelynn and Max are, too,” Trey explained. “Alyza also said Andrea’s been trying hard to get Max to marry her, but he won’t budge. Apparently, Andrea’s mom is in town, getting close with Max’s mom, probably plotting for Andrea’s future.”

Holden let out a cold laugh. “Figures. Andrea’s always just been eye candy, only good for showing off.”
