Felicia went quiet, her mind reeling.
Max let out a bitter laugh. “What’s wrong? You’ve been away for five years, but you can’t even give Anne three to make it up to her? Let me ask you, Felicia. Do you even love her?”
Ten minutes later, Max’s driver was already taking Felicia away from the villa. She watched the city slip by through the window, lost in her own thoughts. Max had told her to take some time to think things over.
Back at work, Felicia just couldn’t focus. During the afternoon meeting, Jeremy noticed she wasn’t herself at all.
When the meeting ended, he called her into his office. “Did something happen with Max?” he asked gently.
Felicia hesitated for a moment, then told him the whole story. Max had agreed to the divorce, but only if Anne could accept it. But Anne had always wanted her and Max to be together. How could she possibly agree to let them split up if she knew Felicia was her real mother? The whole conversation with Max had gone nowhere, ending up right where it started.
“Maybe you could try testing the waters with Anne,” Jeremy suggested quietly. “See how she reacts.”
Felicia shook her head, looking miserable. Just thinking about telling Anne the truth made her chest ache. She had no idea how Anne would handle it, and she couldn’t bring herself to risk hurting her like that.
Jeremy could see how much it weighed on her. “Maybe just let it go for now. Things will work out somehow. For now, just spend time with Anne and try to make up for what you missed.”
Felicia nodded, not trusting herself to say more.
He changed the topic. “Are you free tomorrow morning?”
“Why? What’s up?”
“Nate’s in the hospital. I thought we could go visit him.”
Felicia’s worry showed right away. “Is it serious?”
“It’s just a bad cold, but at his age, the doctor thought it’d be safer to keep him in for a bit. The weather’s been rough lately.”
The next morning, she met Jeremy at the hospital and they made their way to the inpatient wing. When they reached the VIP floor and started walking toward Nate’s room, raised voices drifted out from one of the rooms.
“Darin, do you even care about me anymore? Are you trying to make me sick with worry?”
Felicia froze for a second. That voice was all too familiar. She glanced at the door. It was closed, but through the little window she could see a bit of what was happening inside. Darin stood by the bed, his back rigid and cold.
People in the hallway slowed down, curious about the commotion. Felicia looked away quickly, not in the mood to get involved.
Jeremy leaned in and murmured, “Looks like Mrs. Curtis and Darin aren’t seeing eye to eye.”
Felicia turned to him, curiosity getting the better of her. “What’s going on with the Curtis family?”
Jeremy filled her in, keeping his voice low. Darin had blocked a major project for IronGate Industries. The disagreement had apparently gotten so heated that Mrs. Curtis ended up in the hospital. Darin was her son, but it was obvious Mrs. Curtis sided with the family. Right now, Andrea’s marriage was their biggest bargaining chip. Felicia remembered seeing Mrs. Curtis and Rose together the other day, and now it made sense. Mrs. Curtis was trying to get closer to the Hawthorne family, all to make sure Andrea could marry Max as soon as possible.

Is this coming to an end...
Oh nooo!! Don’t tell me Max will get washed ashore on a remote island then loses all his memory, then falls inlove with the local girl who saves him. Then when he meets Felicia again he won’t recognize her and breaks her heart again. Additional plot twist is that Felicia is pregnant with their 2nd child. Please pleaseee don’t give us this scenario.. LOL!!!...
If Max can be forgiven Darrin can be forgiven. And I do not like this marriage business but if it has to happen I hope after he gets stranded on some remote island alone while Felicia and his family fight over custody she wins and also gets half his estate. Then by time he comes back she's found having and remarried. Lol...
The writer is good. They're making me interested in Max. I won't say like yet....
It seems the only one who hasn't suffered is Max. Even his family fakes anger and disappointment all their own doing so they suffer a little. Everyone else has suffered. Luke and Jeremy unrequited. Felicia has suffered the most from family to unrequited to romance to long suffering Mother. Even baby Anne never had a mother til Felicia suffered then came back only to suffer some more. lol...
Oh no what did Colton do?... I have a bone to pick. When Olisha had to go the hospital why beg for Felicia? When she so loved Max? Seemed like she was in on the setup for Felicia to see a suicide for the 2nd time orchestrated by holden and his brother again. I might drop this series it's becoming endless with no real satisfaction for me. I don't need it to end because it's like a soap opera but if things don't end up making sense, tying up loose storylines it's gonna get old fast for me. Good luck author....
Anne, I think your baby brother is on the way. Thank goodness it doesn't say that Felicia is crying just like the last time but still, there's no willingness on her part. Max! You need to try harder. Make her fall in love with you again....
The writer did a big one with Jeremy's speech to Max. He said almost everything that needed to be said. I have wanted Felicia or someone who knows the past to just tell that whole stinking family what they did and how disgusting they are and what they're doing now how unfair it all is to Felicia. A pity it was only Max but he really needed to hear this (plus more)....
I love the chase of this novel, how you’ve build each of the characters. They almost seem like real. I feel like I know them irl. But however I would like to know what’s max’s pov and what’s going on in his head. I truly believe max’s just a grey character. And also please please please update more!!!...
I was really hoping that Max and Felicia would end up together, but why did Max do that to Felicia? 😭 Is that his way of making Felicia overcome the trauma Holden caused her? I don't think that's helping at all. I just hope Max's character has some redeeming qualities in the coming chapters....
