The other end of the line was quiet for a long moment.

Yvonne finally spoke, her words slow and deliberate. “Honestly, Felicia’s marriage is pretty much non-existent. She shouldn’t let herself be trapped by a marriage certificate that means nothing. You should encourage her to let go and actually enjoy her life. The Hawthorne family doesn’t care about her, anyway. My advice before was for her to stay abroad, start fresh, maybe get married, have kids, live her own life. Anything would be better than being stuck like this.”

Colton just listened, saying nothing.

After a pause, Yvonne asked, “Do you know Luke?”

“Luke? Yeah, he and Felicia have known each other since they were kids. Have you met him?”

Yvonne could tell from Colton’s tone that Luke must be really close to the Ross family. She remembered Rose mentioning that Luke had never dated anyone, and nobody could figure out what kind of girls he liked. Some people even wondered if he was into girls at all.

But maybe, Yvonne thought, Luke was just waiting for that one person.

“I know his mom,” Yvonne said. “Anyway, Colton, just think about what I said and try to talk to Felicia. I know you don’t want her wasting the best years of her life tangled up in all this.”

Colton set his phone aside.

“What were you talking about?”

Ava’s voice cut through the room, icy and sharp.

Colton nearly jumped out of his skin. He spun around and saw Ava glaring at him, her face like a thundercloud. He rushed to her, grabbing her hand. “Babe, it was just about Felicia, I swear. Nothing else.”

Ava yanked her hand back, scoffing. “She’s a rich man’s wife now. Of course she thinks she’s too good for you. Have you looked in the mirror lately? She wouldn’t even bother with you now.” She poked him right in the chest. “Have you let go of her?”

“Babe, I mean it, I’m over her,” Colton pleaded. “You’re the only one for me.”

“Yeah? Then why wouldn’t you marry me back then? Wasn’t it because you still had feelings for her?”

Colton handed it over without a word.

Ava took his phone, opened his contacts, and deleted Yvonne’s number, blocking it for good measure.

“If you even think about unblocking her...”

“Whatever you say, babe.”

Yvonne hung up on Colton, knowing he’d never get Felicia to listen. He clearly wasn’t the one making decisions in the Ross family.

If she wanted to make things happen, she’d have to go through the Hawthorne family.

She remembered Rose’s birthday was coming up next week, so she picked up her phone and dialed Tatiana.
