Luke glanced at Felicia. “Drive safe, okay?”

Felicia nodded. “You should get some rest.”

She said goodbye to Rose, then turned to leave. Just as she reached for her car door, she heard Rose call out behind her.

“Felicia!”

Felicia froze for a second. Even though the Hawthornes all knew who she was by now, hearing Rose call her name still caught her off guard.

Rose walked over. Felicia managed a polite smile. “Hi.”

They didn’t really know each other. Still, Rose was Nate’s wife, and compared to Tatiana, she seemed warmer.

Rose asked, “I heard you and Max were going through a divorce?”

Felicia nodded. “Yeah… but I dropped it.”

Rose didn’t look surprised at all. With Max’s personality, if he didn’t want to let go, no court would make him.

“Does Anne know you’re her mom?”

Felicia hesitated. In Anne’s heart, she was her mother, but she’d never actually told her the truth. She didn’t really get why Rose was bringing this up now.

“Maybe,” she said softly.

Rose studied her, noticing the bitterness in her eyes. “I know you went through a lot. Even with Anne here, it can’t be easy to live with Max again. But Anne’s still so young. She really loves you. Even if things don’t work out with Max, at least give her a happy childhood. Kids are innocent in all of this.”

Felicia understood what Rose really meant. She wanted her to compromise for Anne’s sake, at least until Anne got older. It seemed like all the older generation thought women should make sacrifices for their kids.

What Felicia didn’t get was why Rose was the one saying this. Max and his own mother weren’t even close. Maybe it was just because Anne was so loved by everyone in the Hawthorne family.

“He is. He’s probably working in the study. Did you have a good weekend?”

“It was nice, actually. I feel a lot better. Ready to get back to work.”

Felicia sat down across from her dad and they chatted for a while.

After a bit, Colton asked, “So, what’s happening with you and Max now?”

Felicia let out a small laugh. “Same as always. Honestly, I’m not in any rush to get married again.”

Colton sighed. “This isn’t really a marriage, Felicia. The Hawthornes don’t even acknowledge you. You can’t stay alone forever. Maybe you should think about dating again.”

He just wanted her to get divorced and find someone who would actually love her.

Yvonne’s advice might not have been completely selfless, but she wasn’t totally wrong. If Felicia found someone new, maybe Max would finally agree to let her go.
