Felicia looked at her dad and said, “Dad, I know what I’m doing. You really don’t have to worry about me.”

Colton watched his daughter, wanting to say something else.

“What are you two talking about?” Ava’s voice floated in from the hallway.

Colton jolted a little and turned to face her. “Oh, nothing, just chatting.”

Ava eyed him suspiciously, and Colton tried to give her a reassuring smile.

Felicia glanced between her parents, feeling like something weird was going on.

“Felicia, you worked late tonight. Are you hungry? I can make you some food if you want.”

“I’m not too hungry,” Felicia replied. “I think I’ll just go upstairs and get some sleep.”

“Alright, you must be tired.”

Felicia got up and headed upstairs.

Ava kept her eyes on Colton. He felt uneasy right away. “Honey, why are you looking at me like that? I swear, I didn’t say anything.”

Ava’s tone was sharp. “Colton, listen to me. Even if Felicia wants to move on, she needs to get divorced first. Max might not care about his own reputation, and he’s got plenty of tricks up his sleeve. But if Felicia gets involved with someone else before the divorce, people could use it against her. What would you do if that happened?”

Colton stared at the floor.

Ava’s frustration only grew. “I don’t think Yvonne cares about Felicia’s reputation at all. She’s probably hoping Felicia ends up with another guy, so that way everyone will talk and Max will have a reason to divorce her.”

Colton sighed. “Ava, aren’t you overthinking it? She’s still Felicia’s mom.”

Ava shot him a glare.

Colton fell silent, not daring to say another word.

“Do you really think she treats Felicia like a daughter? Right now, I bet she sees you and Felicia as nothing but obstacles.”

“Oh, I see. I should bring a gift, then.”

Luke said, “If my mom invited you, Felicia, just come if you have time. No pressure.”

Felicia agreed and hung up.

Luke was still puzzled about why his mom suddenly invited Felicia. He called her.

Rose picked up right away.

“Mom, you invited Felicia over for dinner on Thursday.”

Rose said, “Yeah, she asked you about it?”

“She just seemed a little confused about why you invited her.”
