The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 548

Max was the thorn she could never quite pull out of her heart. No matter how much she tried to move on, it always came back to him. That was why she ended up here again, letting their lives cross once more.

Jeremy understood her better than anyone. He knew that as long as that thorn stayed buried, she’d never find peace.

Felicia gave a wry smile. “Maybe. But I’ve come this far, so all I can do is keep going.”

Jeremy let out a helpless sigh. “Whenever you feel like you can’t keep going, remember you’re not alone.”

She smiled at him, her eyes soft. “I know, Jeremy. I believe you’ll be there for me.”

“Always,” he promised.

Later that evening, Felicia didn’t go out to dinner with Max. Instead, she went back to Oakridge Estate. The house was quiet, dinner already set on the table. Max had gotten home about half an hour before her.

They sat together in the dining room, but the air between them felt heavy and cold. Neither of them spoke at first.

Felicia finally broke the silence. “I heard something today.”

Max glanced at her. “What did you hear?”

She kept her voice even, almost emotionless. “Andrea tried to kill herself. She’s in the hospital now. Aren’t you going to Northwick to see her?”

She sounded so calm, as if she was just asking about the weather. But Max could hear the probing behind her words.

“I’m not a doctor. I wouldn’t be any help,” he replied.

Felicia let out a soft, sarcastic laugh. “You might not be a doctor, but if you went, it would do more good than any medicine.”

He looked at her. “Do you really want me to go that much?”

Max just nodded and let the topic drop.

Right then, Anne’s face popped up on a video call. Max answered and held the phone so Felicia could see the screen too.

“Daddy, Mommy, you’re still having dinner!” Anne’s cheerful voice filled the dining room, finally bringing a little warmth into the space.

Felicia’s face softened as she looked at their daughter, her smile gentle and full of love.

Anne was still eating her own dinner on the other end. The three of them chatted for a few minutes, sharing little updates and laughter.

Before hanging up, Anne reminded them in her clear, serious voice, “Daddy, you have to eat nicely with Mommy, okay? Don’t make Mommy mad.”

Max’s tone was warm and reassuring. “I know.”
