The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 636

Gavin stood in the doorway, eyeing Max’s stormy face. He raised an eyebrow, a sly smile playing at his lips. “Back already? That was quick.”

He looked past Max, listening for a moment. Somewhere inside, he caught the faint sound of a girl crying. “Really, man. Did you just make a gorgeous girl cry? That’s cold, even for you.”

Max didn’t even glance his way. He just kept walking, his long strides swallowing the hallway.

Gavin watched until Max disappeared, then stepped inside. He found Olisha curled up on the floor, almost completely bare, her face streaked with tears. There was something heartbreakingly vulnerable about her.

He knelt beside her and took off his jacket, laying it over her shoulders.

Olisha’s eyes, glossy with tears, turned up to meet his. Gavin reached out, lifting her chin with a gentle thumb. “Max is really something, isn’t he? Always pretending he doesn’t care… Olisha, why not let me be the good guy for once?”

She looked away, her cheeks flushing.

Gavin just let out a soft laugh. “Still only got eyes for him? You want my help instead?”

Olisha’s eyes widened, shocked and silent.

Ten minutes later, Max was boarding his private jet, heading straight back to the island.

By the time he made it home, it was almost nine thirty at night.

Felicia had just put Anne to bed and slipped out of the shower. She was still towel-drying her hair when the bedroom door burst open. She jumped, startled, turning fast. Max was standing there, and right away she could tell something was off.

He wasn’t supposed to be back so soon.

Worse, there was something different about him tonight.

Max’s eyes locked on her. She was wearing plain, silky pajamas, nothing flashy, but it still managed to draw his gaze. His stare darkened, intense, drinking her in.

Felicia felt a shiver run down her spine. The air between them seemed to spark, hot and tense.

He moved toward her, his steps fast and determined.

“Max, what are you—mmph!”

An hour passed.

Max came back to the bedroom, towel-dried and chilly as if he had just walked through a rainstorm. The room was quiet. Anne was curled up, fast asleep on the big bed. Felicia was nowhere to be seen.

Max went into the dressing room, pulled on a fresh pair of pajamas, then came back and lifted the covers. He lay next to Anne, watching her peaceful little face. For the first time that night, his eyes softened.

Anne kicked off her blanket in her sleep, and Max gently tucked her back in. He leaned down and kissed her forehead, then turned off the light, finally letting himself rest at her side.

Morning came.

At breakfast, Max found Felicia in the sunny kitchen, moving quietly around the table. He looked completely relaxed, his outfit casual and effortless. His voice, when he greeted her, was easy and concerned, as if nothing strange had happened at all.

“Did you sleep okay last night?” he asked, eyes warm.

You’d never guess he was the same man who nearly lost it the night before.
