The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 781

Max tightened his gentle hold on her hand. "Your current condition makes it completely unsafe for you to be alone in the middle of the night."

Felicia fell silent and did not argue further.

In the middle of his sleep, Darin heard the faint, distant sound of a piano. He woke up, listening closely. Someone was definitely playing. He threw off his blankets, opened his door, and followed the melody down the long corridor until he reached a slightly ajar door. The music was spilling out from inside.

By now, the playing had become disjointed and entirely devoid of rhythm. He pushed the door open just a fraction more and peered inside. In the center of the spacious room sat a white grand piano. Max and Felicia were seated together on the bench. Max seemed to be patiently guiding her hands, trying to teach her the rhythm. The doctor had explicitly recommended moving her limbs to stimulate her nerves, suggesting it would aid her recovery.

Darin watched the scene, but his facial muscles tightened instantly. He remembered the urgent message Jeremy had sent him just hours ago. When her illness flared up, she must absolutely not touch a piano. Darin leaned against the wall outside, listening anxiously to the sounds from the room.

A few minutes later, the erratic piano notes suddenly erupted into a frantic, violent cacophony.

"Alright, that is enough for now," Max said calmly, grabbing her wrists.

Felicia violently wrenched her hands free as if she had been struck by a physical blow. Panting heavily, she slammed her fingers brutally against the keys, creating a horrifying clash of noise. Max instantly wrapped his arms around her, forcibly stopping her from hurting herself. "We are going back to rest now," he said firmly.

As he tried to lift her, Felicia completely broke down. Tears poured down her face as she thrashed against him in sheer hysteria. "Do not touch me, Max. You hate me. You despise me. You wanted to divorce me. Why are you putting on this fake act of kindness now? Will you only be satisfied when I am dead?"

It wasn't until Felicia completely exhausted herself that Max finally carried her out of the music room. As he stepped into the hallway, he locked eyes with Darin. Felicia lay limp against Max's chest, entirely oblivious to her brother's presence. Darin said nothing, his face pale and completely rigid.

Max carried Felicia back to her room. Dr. Harrison arrived swiftly to administer hypnotherapy, helping her calm down until she fell back into a deep, exhausted slumber. After assessing the situation, the doctor concluded she had been severely triggered, most likely by the piano. Max had already guessed as much. She had been perfectly fine at first, but her emotional state had rapidly deteriorated as she played.

"She cannot touch the piano," Darin said grimly. "She has deeply traumatic memories associated with it."

Dr. Harrison nodded in total agreement. "Then she must be kept entirely away from it. Madam is prone to waking up frequently during the night right now. As long as she doesn't exhibit any extreme symptoms upon waking, simply sitting and talking with her will suffice."
