Chapter 122 Messaging
Leona took out her phone and texted her daughter.

“Hazel, if your dad asks how you offended the Quinns, remember to say you don’t know anything. Say you never contacted Mrs. Crawford. Understand?”
Hazel received the message right away.
For days, she had tried to contact Gemma, but she couldn’t reach her at all.
That only made her more nervous.
Now that her mother had texted her, she knew something had gone wrong.
Was it because of the message she sent Zoey earlier, and now her father got dragged into it, too?
So Scarlett had been right. Gemma was really a fake rich girl.
Hazel got so angry that she threw her phone aside, collapsed onto the couch, and burst into tears.
Scarlett went inside with Zoey.
She accepted the invitation. The dinner was set for Saturday night at seven.
Scarlett nodded. “Alright. I’ll be there on time at seven.”
They sat down on the couch.
Zoey smiled. “I know you’re filming during the day, so I came at night. By the way, is that your father outside? He didn’t hit you, did he? Do you want me to step in?”
“No need.” Scarlett shook her head. “Matthew was probably trying to do business with Mr. Shawn. Mr. Shawn refused to see him and only said his daughter caused trouble. He thought it was me, so he came to question me and dragged me over to apologize.”
Hearing Scarlett call her father by name, Zoey could tell Scarlett no longer saw him as her father,
Something serious must have happened.
If Matthew had just wronged Scarlett, she wouldn’t be this detached.
What kind of father was that anyway?
He just heard one sentence, didn’t bother to ask anything, and immediately believed it was Scarlett’s fault, rushing over to accuse her.
Zoey said nothing more.
They chatted briefly. Seeing it was late, Zoey stood up. “Get some rest early, Scarlett. I’ll be heading back.”

After Zoey stepped into the courtyard, she saw Matthew still standing by the gate, stiff and awkward.
He was clearly waiting for her.
The moment he saw her, he rushed over. “Mrs. Crawford, Hazel has always been sensible and well–behaved. How could she offend you? Could this all be a misunderstanding?
“And please tell Mr. Shawn. This project is about new energy–a newly discovered source with huge potential. If we can work together, both our families will stand at the top of the world in the future.”
Zoey replied coolly, “That won’t be necessary. I trust my brother’s judgment when it comes to business.
“And there’s no misunderstanding. We’re all in our 40s. I can tell whether a message is sincere. Your daughter just wanted attention, comparing herself to her elder sister and pretending to be innocent.
“Your younger daughter’s behavior is truly nasty, disgusting, and shameful.”
With that, she gave Matthew no chance to respond.
She got into the car and left.
Only then did Matthew finally understand.
After everything that happened, Hazel must have sent some kind of message to Zoey.
And that message had angered Zoey.
“We’re going home!” Matthew said through clenched teeth.
Leona felt deeply uneasy.
In the car, she wanted to text Hazel.
She wanted to tell Hazel to stay somewhere else for a few days and come back after Matthew calmed down.
But Matthew caught sight of her texting and exploded, snatching the phone from her hand.
“You were texting Hazel just now, weren’t you? She messed up, and this is how you cover for her? Sending her away to hide? Am I not even allowed to question her?!”
For this project, he had barely slept for half a year.
He was sure that once Shawn saw the proposal, the partnership would be secured.
Now it was all ruined.
He’d have to start over and look for new partners.
Leona felt a bitter lump in her throat. “Honey, Hazel didn’t mean it. You know her personality. Mrs. Crawford must have misunderstood her.”
Matthew replied coldly, “I always thought she was sensible. Turns out she secretly compared herself to her
