When they arrived at the Sanchez Residence, Treasure Hunter suddenly said, “There are two plates on a table in the Sanchez kitchen. One is a polychrome frostglaze fruit plate. The other is a blue–and–white blossom plate. Both are antiques and very valuable.”
At that moment, Leona’s heart started racing.
It was the first time she had ever encountered antiques with real worth.
Patrick looked at them with obvious displeasure. He told them to leave.
Leona said instead, “Mr. Sanchez, Hazel is a bit thirsty. Could we borrow your kitchen to get her some water?”
Even though Patrick hated them, he couldn’t bring himself to curse at a little girl who was barely three.
He fell silent.
Leona had Matthew carry Hazel into the kitchen.
She pretended to look for a cup, casually shifting the two plates on the counter.
The plates had been left in the corner for a long time and were covered in dust. It was obvious the Sanchezes didn’t know their value.
She moved them on purpose, making sure Matthew noticed them.
Sure enough, his gaze lingered on the two plates for a moment.
After that, she gave Hazel some water and left the kitchen.
Matthew carried Hazel out to say goodbye to Patrick and even told him to take care of his health.
Patrick sneered. “Stay out of my sight, and I might live a few years longer. Don’t ever come back.”
Matthew left with a dark expression.
As they walked away, Leona was already planning how to get those two plates.
They soon returned to the city.
At that time, they were still renting an apartment.
She asked Treasure Hunter for an antique catalog.
From time to time, she would flip through it.
On purpose, she left the book on the living room table.
Even if she got the antiques herself, she wouldn’t be able to explain where they came from.
Besides, it would be difficult for her to get the plates from the Sanchez Residence by herself.

Patrick would never let her in.
It was better to let Matthew figure it out and take the plates himself.
That way, he’d also get startup money for investments.
One day, out of boredom, Matthew flipped through the catalog.
As he kept reading, he suddenly saw descriptions of two extremely valuable plates.
For some reason, they looked very familiar. Then it hit him.
A few days earlier, when he went back to his old house and stopped by the Sanchez Residence, he had seen those exact plates in the kitchen.
They were identical.
Matthew was instantly excited.
That night, he said, “Leona, I need to take care of something. I’m going back to the old house tomorrow. You stay home with Hazel. No need to come. She doesn’t travel well and gets cranky.”
Leona smiled. “Alright. Go ahead. I was planning to take Hazel to the amusement park tomorrow anyway.”
The next day, Matthew returned to his hometown.
That night, he returned with two antique plates in his hands.
But he looked completely shaken.
Not long after, Leona heard that Daphne had been in an accident. Someone had hit her on the road, leaving her in a vegetative state.
Leona’s heart skipped. She immediately thought of Matthew’s pale face and unfocused eyes that night.
She knew something must have gone wrong when he went to get the plates.
Maybe Daphne had caught him in the act.
Maybe she chased after him.
And maybe, trapped and desperate, he ran her over with the car.
But Leona never asked him.
She even pretended to be clueless and asked casually, “Honey, where did you get those two broken plates?”
Matthew glanced at her, assuming she didn’t remember seeing them at the Sanchez Residence.
So he explained, “Remember that book you left on the table? I saw pictures of two antiques that looked just like plates at my old house. So I went back and took them. I haven’t had them checked yet. Not sure if they’re real.”
