He’d just tripped and fallen on his own.

Ena’s dad probably hadn’t caught anything in the mountains yesterday and was in a bad mood, so he needed someone to take it
out on.
“Did you ever go to this school before?” Hazel asked again.
Ena shook her head. “No. Not many kids in town go to school. Most families don’t let girls get an education.”
Hazel’s face filled with indignation. “That’s ridiculous. Why shouldn’t girls be allowed to study?
“Ena, don’t worry. When I get back, I’ll send you 1,000 dollars every month. You can focus on school and work hard to leave this old–fashioned mountain town. Go see the bigger world out there.”
But she didn’t get the grateful, teary–eyed look she expected.
Instead, Ena looked at her with a deep, aching sadness.
After Hazel said all that, some of the livestream viewers who had called her fake before started softening.
[Hazel can be a little pick–me sometimes, but she’s actually kind. She doesn’t have bad intentions. Seeing how poor this place is, how miserable Ena’s life is, not even able to go to school, and still wanting to sponsor her–that’s honestly pretty good. Hope she follows through.]
[Yeah, that’s true. Scarlett and Selina didn’t even say anything like that, and they seemed closer to Ena, didn’t they?]
[Exactly. Even if Scarlett’s controversial, it’s not hard for her to make money in the entertainment industry. Ena doesn’t need that much to go to school. A thousand a month is more than enough for nine years of compulsory education.
[There’s no way Scarlett can’t afford a thousand a month, but she never offered.]
[Hazel is amazing!
[Are Hazel’s fans taking over the chat? If she wants to sponsor Ena, then fine. Why drag Scarlett into it? Is she seriously trying to use Scarlett for comparison again?]
[It really does feel like Hazel’s using Scarlett as a contrast.)
[Please. Hazel beats Scarlett in every way, okay? Academics, family background–Hazel never cheated on exams and was always in the top ten in her class. Scarlett even cheated before.)
[Beats Scarlett in every way? Only brainless fans would say that. Looks alone, she can’t compete
[Hazel’s just pale and plain. Look at her features. Scarlett’s striking, her bone structure is flawless–she outclasses Hazel completely.]
[Now that you mention it, the scar on Scarlett’s face is almost gone. Wow. That scar removal cream is insanely effective Did her grandfather leave behind the formula? Can someone mass produce it and take it global?!
The livestream chat spiraled back into chaos, argument piling on argument.

Chapter 180 The Naive “Savior”
Hazel looked at Ena and noticed the girl didn’t seem happy at all. If anything, she looked sadder.
Hazel paused, then asked, “Ena, aren’t you happy? Don’t you want to go to school? Isn’t the money enough?
“Don’t worry. The thousand a month is just for your basic expenses during the nine years of compulsory education.
“After that, if you get into high school and college, I’ll cover tuition and living expenses, too.”
High school and college would obviously cost more than compulsory education.
But to Hazel, it was nothing.
Less than the price of one of her handbags.
When Ena still didn’t respond, Hazel felt a flicker of disdain.
Don’t tell me even a thousand a month isn’t enough for her?
In a small town like this, a thousand could support an entire household.
How greedy could she be?
Ena remained silent.
Scarlett walked over, her voice cold. “Do you even have a brain?”
Hazel stiffened when she saw Scarlett. The memory of that punch still made her uneasy.
