Chapter 199 A Doctor’s “Mercy”
He couldn’t take the pain anymore. Even if it meant walking straight into Scarlett’s humiliation, he was going.
The director had already pulled him aside earlier today.
The director told him, “Zayden, this can’t keep going. If you want, you can leave the show now. We’ll send you to the hospital.”
But he refused.
Because something about this felt wrong.
The moment he arrived in this town, his luck had gone straight off a cliff.
Could something be wrong with the bone relic inside that pendant?
He was afraid that if he left the town, the pendant would cause bigger trouble.
So, he wanted to wait until Scarlett got back from the banquet, then ask her in private if she knew what was vrong with his pendant.
He still remembered how Scarlett had blasted him on Instagram–calling him out for using something hat twisted, warning him he’d get backlash.
And Scarlett could do psychic reading.
She must’ve known what his pendant was for from the start.
And all this bad luck this week–was it because Scarlett had messed with his pendant?
But in the first three weeks of filming, nothing like this happened.
t only started this week.
If Scarlett wanted to hurt him, why wait this long?
Zayden decided that even if he quit the show, he still had to see Scarlett first.
Maybe then he could finally figure out what was really going on.
As for asking her to treat him… he figured Scarlett wouldn’t dare refuse.
She clearly knew traditional medicine.
Doctors were supposed to save lives.
If Scarlett refused to treat him, the internet would tear her apart.
Grinding through the pain, Zayden went outside. Scarlett was sitting under a big tree nearby.

Scarlett sensed him coming the second he stepped out of the classroom. She looked up and gave him one glance.
Tsk. What a loser. Hit by a bull yesterday, surgery–level sick today–and not with something minor. He needs surgery.
Of course. Once that luck–drawing thing gets ripped away by force, the backlash hits harder.
Zayden stopped in front of her, face paper–white. “Scarlett … can you check my pulse? Tell me what’s wrong. My stomach’s been hurting all day–started as a dull ache, and now it’s getting unbearable.”
“Sure,” Scarlett said. “I’ll take a look.”
Zayden finally let out a breath.
Of course. Scarlett could mouth off at anyone, but she was still a doctor–she couldn’t refuse a patient.
He held out his wrist, waiting for her to take his pulse.
“What are you doing?” Scarlett flicked a disgusted glance at his wrist.
Zayden swallowed the pain and snapped, “Scarlett, what’s that supposed to mean? Didn’t you just agree to check me?”
Scarlett didn’t even blink. “Yeah, I said I’d see what’s wrong. Who said I’d take your pulse? I don’t want to touch you. A face reading and visual diagnosis are plenty.”
Zayden was furious–and hurting–and for a second, he couldn’t even speak.
Scarlett glanced at his face and said lightly, “Bowel obstruction. You need surgery.”
Bowel obstruction had plenty of causes, but Zayden’s situation looked like it was triggered by stones.
Zayden forced the words out. “You treated a hemorrhaging mother with complications and wrong position -can’t you … can’t you treat this?”
“Sure, I can,” Scarlett said. “Needle therapy plus a prescription would handle it.”
Relief flooded him. If traditional medicine could fix it, even better–he didn’t want surgery.
“Then, thank you. I’ll transfer your fee once we’re back.”
Scarlett lifted a brow. “Why are you thanking me? I never agreed to treat you. I said I’d tell you what you have. I did. Now, either go to the hospital and get cut open, or keep suffering.
As if she’d actually treat him.
That whole ‘doctors must save everyone‘ routine?
She didn’t care. She only saved people worth saving.
If someone wasn’t worth saving, she wouldn’t interfere
Zayden froze. “B–but you
…
you know medicine. Isn’t saving people what you’re supposed to do!”

Scarlett went, “Oh.” Then, she continued, “I’ll save other people. Not you. You could die right in front of ne, and I still wouldn’t lift a finger.”
So go ahead and suffer to death.
It’s kind of immoral, but Scarlett’s tone is so shameless it’s hilarious.]
Zayden is kinda miserable…]
Scarlett is insane. In front of this many viewers, she doesn’t care about her image at all. If she says she von’t treat him, she won’t.]
Scarlett’s going too far. A doctor’s duty is to save lives. If she can treat him, she should–even if it’s her nemy.]
Shut up, you self–righteous idiot. If I were a doctor and a patient tried to ruin me with fake scandal
umors,
I wouldn’t be that generous either. Let him suffer–he deserves it. Zayden brought this on himself. Scarlett shouldn’t treat him.]
The livestream blew up.
Layden stared at Scarlett like he wanted to carve her name into the dirt.
The pain in his gut had reached a fever pitch.
n the end, he didn’t argue. He just asked, “With my condition … how many days can I hold out before I have to get surgery?”
