375 An Apology She Couldn’t Afford
Lavender watched the comments racing past in the livestream and nearly lost her mind.
Sure enough, some viewers had already guessed it was her. There was no way she could admit it.
“Scarlett, please help me. What do I have to do to make you willing to treat me?”
Scarlett did answer her with one sentence. “Apologize.”

Lavender froze on the other end of the call. So Scarlett really had recognized her. She bit down hard and refused to speak.
Scarlett didn’t bother with her any longer. She cut off the video connection.
“Alright,” Scarlett said. “Now we can connect with the next patient.”
Watching the call disconnect, Lavender broke down and sobbed in the hotel room.
Lachman, sitting in the living room, heard her and couldn’t help sighing.
He came over and said, “I told you this wouldn’t work. You couldn’t fool Scarlett. She really does have some extraordinary abilities. She already told you just now that as long as you apologize, she’ll treat you. Honestly, she’s already being pretty decent about this. Even if she hates you, if you apologize sincerely, I believe she’d be willing to forgive you and help you.”
He had heard every word Scarlett said on the stream.
Lavender muttered, “But she definitely wants a public apology. If I apologize publicly, everything I have will be over.”
She understood that part perfectly well. What Scarlett wanted wasn’t just any apology.
She wanted a public apology, with Lavender showing her face and apologizing to her in the livestream.
And if that happened, Lavender would have to admit in front of everyone that back when she was still a newcomer, during the commercial she and Scarlett had filmed together just after Scarlett rose to fame, Scarlett had pushed her because Lavender had deliberately brought up Scarlett’s mother, who was lying in a vegetative state, specifically to provoke her. Everything had been intentional from the start.
If she did that, her career would be ruined. The entire internet would tear her apart.
But if she didn’t apologize, then with her skin rotting like this, what career would she have left anyway? She might not even survive.
Right now it was only her skin ulcerating. What if later even her flesh started to rot? What if it spread all the way to her organs? Would she die?
The more Lavender thought about it, the more panicked she became. She was certain that was exactly what would happen.
After all, the traditional doctor had already warned her that if the medicine still didn’t work, then the

And the dermatologist had hinted at the same thing, asking whether she might have provoked something.
He had said her condition was too strange. Her body wasn’t sick, and yet this had happened to her.
For some reason, Lavender suddenly thought back to a little over 20 days ago. The production had needed to shoot several outdoor scenes, and she had gone deep into the mountains with the crew.
Under an enormous old tree, she had seen a gravestone lying on the ground. The name carved into it read Madam Weaselly.
She had thought it was odd at the time. Weaselly – what kind of surname was that? And why “Madam“? What a strange inscription.
She had already been in a bad mood then, and the stone was lying right in her way. So she kicked it aside. It must have already been crumbling from years of neglect out in the wilderness, because when she kicked it, it broke apart into several pieces. She hadn’t cared at the time.
But now that she thought about it, it was the very next day after coming back from there that the bumps started appearing on her limbs.
Lavender’s face turned whiter and whiter.
At last she bit her lip and looked at Lachman.
“Lachman… do you think this could have something to do with what happened 20 days ago? I… I knocked over a gravestone back then. It feels like ever since I came back from that day, these things started growing on my body, and then they just kept getting worse. I think that grave definitely wasn’t ordinary. What if some curse attached itself to me and wants revenge?
“If that’s really the case, then it probably won’t let me off so easily. Lachman, come back there with me. I’ll find the pieces and make it right somehow. Do you think it might forgive me?”
By the end, Lavender was shaking all over.
The more she thought about it, the more certain she became that this was retribution for breaking the stone to pieces. Something evil had latched onto her.
