390 A Call
Mildred hardly left the house anymore.
Scarlett stayed with her mother until after Christmas.
She didn’t leave her mother’s side until it was time to return to school.
Her mother’s condition kept getting better.
She used to only be able to blink, but now, she could make simple expressions.
Every so often, she could even force out a word, and her fingers and toes would twitch with effort.
Everything seemed to be moving in a hopeful direction.
Scarlett waited until the day before the new term to leave home.
When she returned to her villa, Madam Weaselly had kept the place immaculate.
Scarlett had nothing to worry about.
Blackie, meanwhile, had grown noticeably fatter.
With the new semester, only a few months remained before the SAT.
Scarlett still spent very little time at school.
She kept busy with her own experiments and rarely accepted outside work.
Time flew, and two months passed in a blink.
Scarlett made sure to go home every week. On weekends, she stayed at her mother’s side.
She hadn’t taken any new acting jobs, but her monthly livestreams kept her in the public eye.
Cedric knew she’d be taking her SAT soon and didn’t push her to take on more work.
He understood that the exam mattered most.
With just two months left, Scarlett finally finished her experiment.

Her workspace could barely be called a lab, and the equipment was far from ideal, so the new material she produced wasn’t quite up to her high standards.
She knew she’d need a real lab and proper tools to get the results she dreamed of.
Still, this new material was enough to open doors.
She hoped to use a lab at the Academy of Sciences or the Academy of Engineering.
All she needed now was someone to vouch for her.
Chapter 390 A Call

Scarlett called Norman.
“Hello, Norman.”
Norman laughed. “Scarlett, what brings you to me now? Do you need something?”
Norman Cox was a professor in Creuton University’s architecture department.
They’d met because of that ancient wooden tower in Brookriver City, and he’d always admired Scarlett, even offering her a guaranteed spot at Jyncrest University.
He’d also helped her transfer schools.
Scarlett grinned. “Norman, I’ve come up with something I want you to see. Are you free?”
Norman didn’t hesitate; he knew Scarlett’s talent.
He assumed she’d invented a new structure or architectural style.
“Is it a paper, or something else?” he asked.
Scarlett replied, “Not a paper. Norman, where are you? I’ll come to you.”
“I’m at Jyncrest University. Where are you?” he said, still thinking she wanted his advice on a thesis.
She replied, “I’ll fly to Jyncrest. See you tomorrow, Norman.”
“Alright, see you then.”
Scarlett asked her homeroom teacher for two weeks off.
No one was surprised–she rarely attended class anyway.
She booked an early flight for the next morning.
At dawn, she boarded the plane, carrying her new material with her.
After landing in Jyncrest City, she went straight to the university to find Norman.
Jyncrest University was a top–tier school and a dream for many students.
It wasn’t open to the public on a normal day.
Norman must have notified security in advance.
Scarlett gave her name at the entrance and was allowed inside.
Norman had no classes and was waiting in his apartment.
Scarlett headed straight to his place.
