The Unwavering Heart That Broke novel Chapter 127

The glass landed on the table with a sharp, clean sound.

Lance stared at Fabian, his eyes growing colder by the second. “You’re helping her. What about me?”

Fabian didn’t even flinch. He just shrugged. “You still have Felice, don’t you?”

Lance’s expression darkened. “You’re really pushing your luck, aren’t you?”

Fabian’s lips curved into a slight smile. “Lance, you’ve had it too easy for too long. Nathalie loves you. You think it means she’ll never leave, no matter what you do. But she’s her own person. You know things between her and Felice are tense, yet you keep ignoring her feelings, meeting up with Felice like it’s nothing. How do you think she feels?”

He let out a tired sigh. “I’ve known both of you for years, but honestly, I feel like I should back up the one who’s getting hurt. Otherwise, people’ll just keep walking all over her. Isn’t that unfair?”

“She’s my wife. No one messes with her,” Lance said, voice oozing confidence. “This is our problem. I don’t want anyone else sticking their nose in. Fabian, we go way back, but don’t make me do something we’ll both regret.”

Fabian’s smile faded, his voice turning flat. “And if I decide I can’t let it go?”

“Go ahead. Try me.”

They stared each other down, all the friendly air sucked out of the room. Suddenly, the space between them felt loaded, like something was about to explode.

Finally, Fabian broke the silence. “Keep this up, and you’ll just drive her further away.”

“This has nothing to do with you.”

Wordlessly, Fabian grabbed the glass, finished his drink in one long pull, and stood up to leave.

Lance started drinking too, one glass after another, his eyes growing even colder, even darker.

His phone rang.

He glanced at the screen. Felice was calling.

“Hey, Felice.”

There was hesitation in her voice. “Lance, I need a favor.”

“What is it?” His tone was icy.

On the phone, his voice was heavy, almost apologetic. “I probably won’t be back for a few months. I got pulled into a tricky project here.”

She was stunned. “Why did you leave all of a sudden?”

Fabian hesitated. “It… has something to do with Lance.”

That made her grip the phone tighter. “He found out you were helping me, didn’t he? He’s making things hard for you on purpose?”

Fabian sighed. “I thought I could stand up to him. I never expected he’d go straight to my dad. Nathalie, I’m sorry, but I can’t help you right now.”

A wave of anger flashed in Nathalie’s eyes, but she held herself together. “It’s alright. This is on me. Sorry for dragging you into it.”

Fabian let out another long sigh. “Let’s stop apologizing to each other. We’re both having a rough time.”

She forced a small smile. “Take care, then. Don’t worry about me.”

Hanging up, she immediately tried to call Lance. But his phone just rang and rang… no answer.
