The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 191

“Didn’t you already know? I’ve been following you.”

Lance’s deep, dark eyes watched her, unreadable.

She didn’t believe him for a second. No matter what he said, she wouldn’t believe it. If that was how it was, then fine. Let her think he followed her around.

“You…” Nathalie’s brows knitted in frustration, irritation flickering in her eyes. But after what he’d just done for her, the anger dissolved before she could do anything with it.

Annoyed almost to the point of shaking, she yanked out her phone to call a car. Her message was pretty clear. She wasn’t going back to Lumina Grand with him.

Then, out of nowhere, a hand reached out and snatched her phone away.

“Give it back!” Nathalie shot him an icy glare.

Lance slipped her phone into his pocket without a word, walked over to the car door, opened it, and then leaned down, scooping her up with one smooth motion.

Nathalie fought him, but he didn’t even flinch. “Let go of me!”

He smacked her lightly. It wasn’t hard, but it made her freeze. His voice dropped. “Nathalie, I’m in a bad mood right now. Don’t push me.”

You had to go out to dinner with Freddy. Look where that got you. This is what you chose.

Nathalie gaped at him like she couldn’t believe what she’d just heard. “You… you jerk! Let me go!”

Lance didn’t bother answering. He just tossed her over his shoulder so she couldn’t fight him anymore, then marched into the villa, straight through to the living room, and carried her upstairs like she weighed nothing. He dropped her onto the bed.

She bounced twice on the mattress, and right away she tried bolting for the door. Lance caught her by the ankle, pulled her back, and leaned over her, pinning her down.

“Where do you think you’re going? Are you running back to him?”

His breath was hot against her ear, his body pressing her down so she couldn’t budge.

“Stay away from Freddy. Do you really think it’s a coincidence he came back all of a sudden?” Lance opened his eyes, studying her, his voice low and pleading.

Nathalie wouldn’t even look at him, her whole presence as cold and distant as ice.

That wall between them, the way she shut him out, it hurt more than anything else.

“I know you didn’t do it,” he said quietly. “Felice wouldn’t dare go after you.”

Nathalie closed her eyes, a hint of bitter laughter in her voice. “Didn’t you tell me I should go confess at the police station? In your eyes, I’ve already done it. You already decided I was the one who pushed her.”

“No,” Lance said, shaking his head. “You risking yourself just to get away from me… that’s the real mistake.”

Her lashes trembled, anger mixing with something almost like heartbreak in her eyes.

Her tone was glacial. “Lance, you can refuse to divorce me all you want. Maybe I didn’t do anything before, but the future? I can’t promise anything.”
