The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 194

Nathalie felt a little better when she saw the moody look on his handsome face. “So, can I go now?” she asked.

Lance’s almond eyes fixed on her. “No.”

She was already on her feet, heading for the door. No way was she going to hang around just because he said so. She’d eaten, she was done.

A bodyguard stepped in to block her way, but as she kept moving, it looked like she was about to walk straight into his outstretched hand.

The bodyguard jerked his hand back, startled. Stopping Nathalie was one thing, but touching her was a whole different story. There was no way he’d risk it.

Nathalie walked out of the villa briskly.

Inside, the bodyguard glanced nervously at the man in the living room. Lance just watched Nathalie leave, his voice low and icy when he finally spoke. “Keep following her. Don’t let her notice.”

“Yes, sir.”

Once Nathalie was sure no one was following her, she finally let out a breath and felt her whole body relax.

Night had fallen and the city lights sparkled to life. She ordered a ride and headed home. When she checked her phone, she noticed her work group chat had a new name.

The project manager had left a message in the chat saying the company had been acquired. Now, Apex Audio was a division of The Adams Group.

Nathalie frowned, annoyed and confused. What on earth was Lance up to now? Why would he just suddenly buy a voice acting company?

A message from Addis popped up next.

Addis: Company’s been bought, but the project keeps going. We’ve got half the series left to record. You better not quit.

It was like Addis had read her mind, trying to stop her from even thinking about quitting.

Daniel’s face clouded over. He stepped up and said, “Officer, my daughter lives here. I came to see her.”

The officer looked unconvinced. “We got a call about someone trying to break in. Are you really her father?”

Daniel nodded. “Yes, that’s right. If you want, I can go home and get proof. My daughter hasn’t opened the door and I’m really worried something happened to her. Officer, you got here just in time. Could you help me get the door open? I’m seriously worried.”

He took out his ID and made a call, asking the family butler to send a photo of their family records.

The officer checked the photo and seemed satisfied. “She’s definitely home?”

“She is. We just had a fight. She can be really stubborn… When we argue, she cuts us all off, so I had to come check on her. Who knew she’d lock me out, too? Officer, tell me, what else could a parent do?”

Daniel heaved a dramatic sigh, his face full of helplessness.

The police officer didn’t say much more and moved to knock on Nathalie’s door.
