The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 218

Nathalie was livid.

Without thinking, she bit down on his lip, taste of blood flooding their mouths. It was sharp and metallic, nothing sweet about it.

Lance pulled away from the kiss, breath coming out ragged and shaky, his face close enough that their noses brushed. Nathalie’s chest rose and fell as she stared at him, eyes rimmed with red. “You’re upset? Why? You have no right to be upset.”

Her gaze was icy, and there was a mocking glint there that made it hard to meet her eyes.

Lance swallowed hard, voice low. “You keep seeing Freddy, and you never listen when I tell you not to.”

Nathalie let out a bitter laugh and shook her head, her eyes shining even redder now. “You don’t care what I feel, so why should I care how you feel?”

She was breathing fast, anger burning in her chest. His hands still had her wrists pinned, making it clear who had the upper hand here.

They were married, but it had never felt like an equal partnership.

“When you bent over backwards for Felice and Jasper, did you ever once stop to wonder how I felt? I told you I hated it every time you went to see them. Did you ever care what I wanted? Did you even listen?”

Nathalie fought hard against his hold, pain shooting through her wrists, but she refused to back down.

“Lance, you’ve never cared about me or what I feel. Who am I to you, really?”

This time, her voice broke, almost a scream. She glared at him, trembling, not a single tear falling.

Maybe she wasn’t as hurt as before. Maybe that was because her love for him was finally fading.

Before, any mention of Lance and Felice together would send her spiraling, her whole world collapsing. Now, all she felt was an empty ache that barely scratched the surface.

She used to think letting go would be the hardest thing in the world.

Turns out, it was actually pretty easy.

She stared him down, eyes cold and taunting, no hint of affection left.

Lance felt even more restless inside. He let go of her wrists but immediately pressed her against the wall, the chill creeping through her clothes and her skin.

Was he out of his mind?

Things were already so broken between them. How could he still want to talk about having a baby?

It was ridiculous.

Lance kissed her again, as if he could change her mind with a touch. “We’ve been married four years. We’re not getting any younger. Let’s just have a baby. One that’s half you, half me. What do you say?”

“No, definitely not.”

Nathalie shoved at him, panic rising as she tried to break away. He really was crazy.

There was no way she would have a child with him.

She’d already filed for divorce. If she won, she’d get the papers and finally be free of him. There would be nothing tying them together.

Having a baby now was the worst thing she could possibly do.
