The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 239

Fabian looked ghostly pale. Even breathing seemed to hurt his raw, hoarse throat.

Watching Nathalie standing there, so lost, he felt his chest tighten. “I’m pretty stubborn, you know. Once I start something, I don’t just let it go. So don’t even think about giving up. Whatever it is you want, I’m here to help you make it happen.”

But Nathalie just couldn't find the will to fight back. Everything that had happened today made her realize something harsh and painful. She had never really stood a chance against Lance.

Worse, if she pushed Lance too much, he’d lose control. And if that happened, there’d just be more people dragged into the disaster.

She looked at Fabian, worry gnawing at her. He was still so determined, as if nothing could scare him off. It made her feel even more lost.

She pressed her hands over her face, sinking into a fog of defeat and exhaustion.

Fabian let out a slow breath. “Nathalie, if you drop the lawsuit and just give in to him, are you really prepared to go back to that kind of life? Miserable and hurting?”

His voice was gentle but steady, as if he was painting a picture only she could see. “He’ll always be back and forth between you and Felice. Jasper will always come first. You’ll just keep waiting, always second place. Is that really what you want?”

Nathalie let out a shaky breath and lowered her hands. Her eyes were still glossy and red, but now there was a new spark there. Steadier. Stronger.

“Alright. I’ll do it my way.”

No more backing down.

Fabian’s smile was soft, almost proud. “Don’t do it for me. Do it for yourself. That’s what matters, Nathalie. You have to keep choosing yourself.”

Something in her heart squeezed, tender and aching. “Still… I owe you an apology,” she whispered.

“Alright. I accept it. And I forgive you,” Fabian replied, letting one corner of his mouth lift into a smile. “But I’m beat right now. I need to sleep for a while.”

“Okay. I won’t bother you anymore.”

“You should get going. I can’t really rest with you hanging around,” he added, his words gentle but unmistakably clear.

Nathalie wavered. “But, leaving you here… I’m worried.”

She turned when she heard someone call her name. Bagot hurried over, worry written all over his face. “How’s Fabian? Is he alright?”

Her eyes turned distant, almost cold. “If you’re that concerned, why not go check on him yourself?”

Bagot looked away, rubbing the back of his neck. “I… I feel weird about it. I mean, I was there too, but I didn’t dare stop Lance... When Lance goes off the rails, it’s honestly terrifying.”

He sighed. “That’s why I called you here, you know? I thought maybe you could keep things from getting worse… never expected it to turn out like this.”

Nathalie glanced away. “If there’s nothing else, I’m leaving.”

“Wait,” Bagot stopped her, stepping in front of her. “Actually, there is something.”

She frowned, her patience already thin. “What?”

Sensing her distance, Bagot hesitated, then forced the words out. “It’s Lance. He’s here at the hospital too. He got hurt. Do you… do you want to go see him?”
