Madonna stepped out of the villa and into the garden, her voice growing colder. “If you hadn’t gone so far, Lance never would have sent you away. You’re old enough. Can’t you let things go?”

Leda scoffed, folding her arms. “Let go? And just watch that troublemaker wreck our family? If she stays, the Adams family will suffer. I’m not just sitting back and letting it happen.”

Madonna rubbed her temple. “But Lance is the one refusing to divorce. Nathalie already filed for it, but he won’t sign. What do you expect us to do?”

Leda shot her a look, voice dripping with sarcasm. “That’s because Nathalie pulled some shameful trick to keep him under her thumb.”

Madonna didn’t even know what to say to that. She just fell silent for a moment, her expression turning serious.

“Mom, Lance is the CEO of the Adams Group now. He’s the only son I have, and your only grandson is Jasper. Please, stop saying all these nasty things.”

Leda just snorted, but for once she didn’t argue.

“There’s something else I need to tell you,” Madonna continued a little more slowly. “I thought about it and decided you should know, just so you’re prepared.”

Leda narrowed her eyes. “What is it?”

Madonna hesitated, then said, “I agree that Nathalie doesn’t really fit in with our family. So I came up with a plan. What if Lance and Felice get together? If that happens, Lance will be the one who wants a divorce, and Nathalie will leave on her own.”

“No way!”

Leda’s answer was instant and sharp. “Are you out of your mind? You want everyone to laugh at the Adams family? Madonna, that’s the worst idea I’ve ever heard. I’m telling you, I won’t allow it.”

Madonna’s tone turned icy. “Do you have a better suggestion then?”

Leda was quiet for a few seconds, still stubborn. “I don’t care, I just won’t agree to this. It’s too humiliating. I wouldn’t be able to face our ancestors if I let this happen.”

“Mom, you don’t understand. Lance feels something different for Felice. With Nathalie, it’s just habit. Once he’s with Felice, he’ll want a divorce on his own. Besides, there’s something else. Something happened not long ago… Lance almost died.”

The words spilled out all at once, Madonna’s voice unsteady. She told Leda everything that had happened.

Leda’s resolve started to crumble. “Do you really think this will work?”

“We’ll never know unless we try,” Madonna said with a tired smile. “If I had any other way, I wouldn’t even consider this. But right now, this is all I’ve got. Besides, Jasper relies on Lance so much. If they all live together, at least I can worry a little less.”

Even if the thought of Felice annoyed her, there wasn’t anyone else who could get close to Lance. Felice was the only one with a chance. Madonna had to accept that.
