The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 326

After dinner, Nathalie was in no hurry to leave. Madonna chatted with her like nothing out of the ordinary was going on.

Lance sat quietly nearby, rubbing his temples. A slow warmth was gathering in his lower belly, subtle yet steady, winding through him just like it always had when Nathalie was around.

He couldn’t help but watch her, eyes traveling slowly from her face down the length of her body.

They were husband and wife. There was nothing out of line in how he felt. He cleared his throat, his voice a little rough. Nathalie, my shoulder’s bothering me again. Could you take a look?

At that, Madonna gave Nathalie’s hand a gentle pat. Go ahead, dear. _ance got hurt because of you. You really should check on him, see if ne’s healing up.

Alright,” Nathalie replied without hesitation. She stood up, moved to Lance’s side, and bent to gently take his arm.

Lance stood as well, and his arm slipped naturally around her waist.

His palm pressed against her side, radiating heat through the fabric of her dress. She realized immediately that whatever was in the soup he’d had earlier was finally working its magic.

She lowered her eyes and led the way upstairs.

Their room was on the second floor, but because of Leda, Nathalie hardly ever stayed overnight at The Adams Estate. The master bedroom here still felt unfamiliar, almost like it belonged to strangers.

When she opened the door, Lance’s breath was already warm against her

skin.

His lips brushed softly over her cheek. “Nathalie

He spoke her name, the sound thick with longing.

I just remembered I left something downstairs for you,” Nathalie said, pulling back a little. Wait here. I’ll go grab it.

Lance didn’t move, his arms tightening around her. What is it? Can’t you get it later?

He tried to lean in for a kiss.

Nathalie turned her head away, a teasing smile on her lips. Not now. It’s a gift for you. Don’t you want it?

A gift. Just those words did something to him, cracking open the dry, guarded corners of his heart and letting a bit of hope in.

How long had it been since she’d given him anything? They were, after all, still fighting in court over the divorce. She was supposed to be leaving

nim.

But tonight she hadn’t pushed him away. She’d even brought him a gift.

Despite the burning urgency in his body, Lance found himself letting her Jo, hope rising above the heat. Now he only wanted to know what she had for him.

What could it possibly be?

Alright. I’ll wait,” he said, watching her with soft, patient eyes.

Nathalie motioned for him to sit on the sofa, then walked to the door and flicked off the lights. She glanced over her shoulder and whispered, You have to see this in the dark. Otherwise, there’s no surprise.”

He nodded, unable to take his eyes off her.

Nathalie slipped out and closed the door behind her, shutting out all the light from the hallway.
