“The gift you talked about… was drugging me, then sending another woman to my bed?”
His voice shook with disbelief as he spoke, but his hand on her neck hardly pressed at all. He was still scared of hurting her.
But… still. How could she do this to him?
L
His shoulders slumped, and he stared at her. Her face was way too calm. For so long, he refused to believe she had stopped loving him, but
tonight, that tiny hope finally crumbled.
She really didn’t love him anymore.
She’d actually go this far. Just to break up with him.
How could she?
‘You liked each other. I was only helping you two out. How is that wrong?” Nathalie found herself looking away, unable to meet his eyes.
She couldn’t handle what she saw in them.
He was the one who had cared for Felice first, put Felice above everything, even when it meant ignoring Nathalie’s feelings or the fact that she was being treated unfairly.
So what right did he have to look at her like she’d betrayed him?
All she did was give him what he wanted.
She honestly believed she hadn’t done anything wrong.
“Do you know how much I was looking forward to your so–called gift? I felt you being gentle, and I thought, maybe you’d changed your mind about the divorce… Turns out it was all just fake. A lie. Just bullshit!” Lance’s voice cracked, and a tear rolled down his cheek, but he wouldn’t look away from her.
Chapter 328
Nathalie’s eyelashes trembled. She glanced up at him, spotting the tear, and for a second, she just stood there, frozen.
Then she gave a tired, bitter smile. “Lance, if we’re here now, it’s because of you. If you’d just said yes when I first asked for a divorce, we wouldn’t have ended up like this.”
She pointed a finger at his chest, frowning a little. “Hurts here, doesn’t it? It used to hurt a lot for me too.”
“I could kill you right now.” Lance clenched his teeth, his fists tight. “Felice? She’s nothing. I could toss her aside without a thought. But you start a fight over something meaningless, and now I’m really starting to wonder if you ever loved me at all.”
He finally let her go, taking a step back. There was a crooked smile at his lips, but it was full of pain. “I must have been out of my fucking mind. Fine. You want the divorce? You got it.”
He turned away, heading for his car, but after only a few steps, his body wobbled and he collapsed to the ground.
Nathalie’s eyes went wide, and she instinctively stepped toward him.
Then she stopped.
The bodyguards rushed over, picked him up, and carried him into the car. They sped off toward the hospital.
His shoulder hadn’t even healed yet, and now he was right back in the
emergency room.
All three cars left, and suddenly, there was no one stopping her anymore.
She stood there on the road, feeling the cold rush in all around her, numbing everything and letting her finally think clearly.
He’d finally agreed.
That was good.
