The Unwavering Heart That Broke novel Chapter 33

It felt like someone had dumped a bucket of icy water right over her head.

For a split second, Nathalie just stood there, stunned. Then she snapped out of it and started struggling as hard as she could.

“Get out. Get away from me!”

Even drunk, he never forgot to look after Jasper. He never missed a chance to see Felice. But now he dared to say he loved her?

What a joke. Did he even understand love at all? He was just making a mess of something sacred.

Nathalie’s anger exploded. As she shoved him away, Lance’s back scraped hard against the wall, and a fiery pain shot through him.

He let out a muffled groan and slumped to the floor.

Nathalie stood over him, her breath quick, her eyes full of rage. “You’re unbelievable. You really are.”

Lance’s eyes were red around the edges as he looked up at her. “Nathalie, my back really hurts.”

“You know what, I hope it hurts even more!”

She gave him a little kick, her face twisted with anger, her whole body trembling.

She headed for the door, saw it was open, and just walked right out.

The wind outside hit her hard, cold enough to make her bones ache.

She didn’t so much as glance back at the man on the floor.

Once she got to her apartment, she took a long, hot shower. She had barely stepped out of the bathroom when her phone started to ring.

She checked the screen—Daniel. She didn’t even hesitate. She hung up, turned off her phone, crawled into bed, and pulled the covers over her head.

She needed sleep. Tomorrow, she would bring up the divorce. If he wouldn’t go along with it, she’d get Leda involved. His parents would be coming back soon anyway. One way or another, she was going to make this happen.

She slept so long she lost track of time and finally woke up, dizzy with hunger.

She ordered some takeout and turned her phone back on. The screen instantly filled with all kinds of messages and missed calls.

Nathalie closed her eyes for a second, then started going through them, one after another.

Nathalie’s eyes lit up instantly. For the first time in ages, she felt a spark of hope.

“When’s the meeting?”

“This afternoon, if you’re up for it,” Damaris replied. “Are you sure you can handle it?”

Nathalie nodded fast, her mouth full. “I’m in. Absolutely.”

She finished eating in a flash and got herself ready in record time. An hour later, she was dressed to impress, standing proudly in front of Damaris.

“Look at you,” Damaris said, clearly impressed. “Gorgeous as always. Come on, let’s go.”

But as soon as they opened the door, they found Felice standing right outside.

Nathalie’s face went cold and a smile crept onto her lips. “Wow. You really had the guts to come here alone? I’m kind of impressed.”

Felice instinctively stepped back. “Nathalie, Lance is in the hospital. He’s unconscious. You’re his wife. You should be there. It just doesn’t look right if you don’t go.”
