“I’m on my way.”
Lance hung up and drove straight back to the estate.
The nanny was pacing the floor with Jasper in her arms. The little boy was sobbing uncontrollably, his voice already hoarse.
‘I want my mommy! Uncle Lance, I want mommy…”
ance took the toddler from her arms and carried him upstairs, his voice softening. “Jasper, did you finish your homework today?”
‘I–I finished it…”
Jasper rubbed his puffy eyes, but the tears kept falling.
He wrapped his tiny arms around Lance’s neck. “Uncle Lance, when is my mommy coming back?”
nstead of answering, Lance asked, “Where did you put your homework? I haven’t checked it yet.”
Jasper instantly tensed up. He wiggled out of Lance’s arms, trotted over o his small desk, and handed the workbook over.
The little boy stood frozen in place, hiccuping softly, too scared to cry out oud.
Jasper was only three and a half, still in preschool with no real
homework. But Lance gave him daily assignments to build his discipline and distract him.
Good work earned a reward.
Bad work earned a punishment.
For a toddler, losing his playtime was the ultimate penalty. Terrified of disappointing his uncle, Jasper always made sure to finish his tasks.

Lance nodded approvingly. “Very good. You earned a piece of candy today.”
Jasper’s eyes immediately lit up. With the candy in hand, he stopped crying and forgot all about his mother.
Lance patiently played with him for a long time, gave him a bath, and eventually coaxed him to sleep.
Looking at the little boy’s face, which bore a striking resemblance to Jackson’s, a rare warmth flickered in Lance’s eyes.
But the moment he stepped out of the room, his gaze turned freezing cold. He looked at the nanny and ordered, “Bring everyone who took care of Jasper today to the living room.”
‘Right away, Sir.”
Six nannies managed Jasper’s daily life, handling everything from his meals and clothes to his playtime and early education.
Lance pulled up the security footage on his laptop, meticulously reviewing what every single nanny had said and done with Jasper that day.
After a long silence, he locked his predatory gaze on one nanny who had been keeping her head bowed. “Do you have something to say?”
The woman trembled instinctively and shook her head. “N–no.”
“Then why did you bring up his mother?” Lance’s voice was deadly calm.
The nanny gritted her teeth and finally looked up. “Sir, Jasper is just a baby. He needs his parents. He’s already lost his father; he can’t lose his mother too. Otherwise, his childhood will be incomplete and traumatizing. Sir, my heart breaks for the boy. Couldn’t you just bring Felice back?”
“What a bleeding heart.”
