Nathalie gripped her phone so tightly her knuckles ached. For a split second, she genuinely wondered if Lance had sent it himself!
But why would he bother?
He could have easily made scrapping the divorce part of their deal today.
And for her own safety, she likely would have agreed to it anyway.
So who on earth was sending this?
The sender clearly knew exactly what was going on.
She immediately dialed the number, but it had already been disconnected.
Were the people trying to kill her afraid of Lance?
If that wasn’t the case, why would this mysterious person warn her to stay married to him?
Her thoughts drifted to her plan to test Fabian and Freddy.
She had already felt Fabian out, which meant Freddy was next on her list. Nathalie deleted the text and forced herself to get some sleep.
The next morning, she printed out a freshly drafted divorce agreement. After meticulously reviewing the clauses, she grabbed her purse and headed straight to the hospital.
After a full night of rest, Lance was looking significantly better.
She pulled the divorce papers from her bag and dropped them on his lap. Lance picked up the document and scanned it thoroughly.
After a moment, he looked up at her, raising an eyebrow. “You don’t want half my assets?”
Nathalie smirked. “If I asked, would you even give them to me?”
“No,” Lance replied without missing a beat.
With a swift motion, he clicked his pen and signed his name at the bottom.
His complete lack of hesitation actually took her by surprise.
It was proof that he really was ready to be done with this marriage.
That was for the best.
Nathalie tucked the papers safely back into her bag. “Once this entire mess is sorted out, we’ll make it official at the courthouse.”
“Fine,” Lance agreed coolly.
After breakfast, Lance spent some time sorting through corporate emails on his tablet. Eventually, he glanced over at Nathalie, who was sitting on the sofa.
He closed his files and casually announced, “I want a shower.”
Nathalie froze, shooting him an exasperated glare. “Your wounds aren’t healed yet. You can’t shower.”
“I reek of blood and antiseptic,” Lance complained, looking thoroughly disgusted. “I can’t stand it anymore.”

He gave her a pointed look. “You promised to take care of me, and now you’re making excuses?”
Nathalie shot him a withering look. Without a word, she stomped into the adjoining bathroom and marched back out with a basin of warm water and a washcloth.
Setting the basin on the nightstand, she crossed her arms and stared him down. “Take your shirt off.”
Lance blinked, looking momentarily caught off guard. “What are you
