“Take… take him away first: I need to go home…”
Nathalie’s mind was in a fog, the heat in her body surging stronger by the second.
She leaned heavily against the wall, stumbling toward the exit. The waitress returned, taking one look at Nathalie’s flushed face and panicking. “Are you okay? Miss, you’re scaring me!”
Nathalie grabbed the girl’s arm. “Get me to a hotel.”
She couldn’t go home.
If her grandmother saw her like this, she would be worried sick.
The waitress was frantic. “Miss, what’s wrong with you? Let me take you to the hospital.”
Nathalie shook her head. “Just a nearby hotel.”
“O–okay…”
The waitress supported her as they left, with Nicol dragging a man by the collar closely behind them.
Once they checked into a room, Nathalie headed straight for the shower, turning the cold water on full blast.
ľ
The freezing spray helped dull the overwhelming effects of the aphrodisiac, bringing some clarity back to her clouded mind.
Outside the bathroom, the waitress knocked anxiously. “Miss, are you holding up okay?”
Nathalie called back. “I’m fine.”
The waitress breathed a sigh of relief. “You terrified me back there. And… who are those guys outside? The big guy has been holding that man by the neck this whole time. They look dangerous.”
Nathalle didn’t answer. She stayed under the ice–cold water until the Buffocating heat finially dissipated.
Toweling off, she stepped out, her face pale and shivering. She put on the fresh clothes the waitress had run out to buy for her. “You can head back now,” Nathalie said.
The waitress asked cautiously, “Are you sure you don’t need a doctor?”
Nathalie shook her head. “No. You bought me clothes and burn ointment, making up for what happened. I won’t hold you responsible.”
The waitress looked at her with pure gratitude. “You’re so kind, Miss. I’ll be going then.”
“Yeah.”
Nathalie applied some ointment to her skin, then told Nicol to bring the attacker inside.
“Who sent you?”
Wrapped tightly in a blanket, Nathalie sat on the sofa. Her clear eyes were freezing. The cold shower had chilled her to the bone, leaving her trembling.
The man glanced at Nicol in terror before stammering, “It… It was Freddy.”
“What?”
Nathalie’s brow furrowed sharply. “Which Freddy? Give me his full name.”
The man swallowed hard. “Freddy. He paid me to drug you, take you away, and then…”
And then what?
She knew exactly what would have happened if she had been taken away while under the influence of that drug.
Nathalie’s expression darkened. She looked up at Nicol. “He’s lying.”
Nicol didn’t hesitate. He raised a massive fist and slammed it into the man’s stomach.
“Ah! Stop, stop hitting me! I’m telling the truth!” the man howled in agony, coughing up a mouthful of blood. “You can look into it! He wired a huge sum of money into my account just a few days ago. I swear I’m not lying…”
