Octavia didn't let her guard down for a second, her voice remaining perfectly gentle. "Who is she?"
Fabian's lips parted, preparing to answer, but before a single sound could leave his mouth, he violently wretched, spewing a mouthful of dark blood onto the floor before his eyes rolled back, collapsing into total unconsciousness.
The violent shattering of the hypnotic link hit Octavia like a physical blow. Her face went deathly pale, and she stumbled backward, struggling to stay upright.
Nathalie rushed forward, catching her arm. "Octavia, are you alright?"
Octavia squeezed her eyes shut, taking a deep breath before slipping the antique pocket watch back into her coat. "I'm fine. His psychological conditioning was incredibly severe. That was as far as I could push him."
She looked up at Lance. "Sylvie Winter. Did you get that?"
"Yes."
Lance's dark eyes were freezing cold. "The payment will be wired to your account immediately. I'll have someone escort you home to rest."
Octavia gave a weak smirk. "Just remember to add a hazard fee."
"Understood."
A bodyguard stepped forward, gently supporting Octavia as she exited the basement.
Nathalie stared down at Fabian's unconscious body, her mind racing with a million questions.
Sylvie Winter.
Was this the person who had orchestrated the repeated attempts on her life?
Could this 'Sylvie' actually be Daniel and Camilla's long-lost daughter?
Suddenly, a warm, broad hand wrapped securely around hers. Startled, she turned to find Lance standing right beside her.
"I am going to track this woman down," Lance said, his voice a low, fierce vow. "I will not let her anywhere near you."
Nathalie lowered her gaze. "That is the nature of our arrangement."
With that, she smoothly pulled her hand from his grasp, severing the warmth between them, and walked out of the sterile room.
Lance quickly typed out a command on his phone before striding after her.
Lance reached out, taking her hand once more. "He drew a picture for you. He wants you to have it. Let's go back and look at it."
Nathalie frowned. "It's late, and I'm tired. You should be using this time to find out who Sylvie Winter is."
"I can do both."
Ignoring her protests, Lance led her straight to the car.
When they returned to Lumina Grand, he took her directly into his bedroom, opening his bedside drawer and pulling out a piece of drawing paper.
"Look. Jasper drew this. He said this is you, and this is me. He's begging you to like him. He wants you to accept him."
Lance held the paper out, his dark eyes locking onto her face, desperate for a crack in her armor.
Nathalie stared blankly at the messy crayon drawing. Her long lashes fluttered once before she spoke, her tone terrifyingly calm. "I can't."
She looked up, meeting his desperate gaze with complete indifference. "And I have no reason to try. We are getting a divorce. I will not be playing the role of his aunt any longer."
